We were so happy to catch up with Zuri friend, poet and author Claudia Castro Luna and to hear more about her forthcoming book, Flowers Along the Way, due out September 15th! She told us: "Writing is for me an act of courage and becoming. The Flowers Along the Way is, in a way, a geography of self. The words gathered in these pages have traveled the distance of miles and of memory. These words were filtered through the power of the imagination and fed by resilience. Putting one word in front of the other I came to understand myself not only as a victim of civil unrest and war, but as a multi-faceted person who comes from a rich cultural tradition, a person who is loved and is able to love deeply, a person with agency and determination." We can't encourage you all enough to read this beautiful work!

A few fun things we've been working on lately ✨💓 There have been so many gorgeous new prints and styles this summer, from short sleeved tees and skirt sets to batiks, linens and more, we just wanted to send a huge thank you to the team who makes it all happen at SOKO Kenya!! We're always grateful to know how much pride and thoughtfulness and goes into each piece, and the joy absolutely carries forward! We have the most amazing community, and are thrilled to highlight the work of our longtime customer, Oakland-based glass artist and conservationist, Ariana Makau! We caught up with Ariana about her work with Nzilani Glass Conservation, as well as her newest project, The Fillet Foundation. Named after the stained glass fillet - a small but essential piece that connects the center design to surrounding architecture - the foundation's mission is to bring underserved People and overlooked Places to the forefront of Preservation.  She shared: Everything I do is connected. It’s why I sign both my Nzilani and TFF emails “Your partner in preservation (people, place and planet)”. That order is intentional. I genuinely believe that if a person’s basic needs are met, they are far more likely to have the ability to care for other people and places around them." Thank you so much, Ariana - we are huge fans and are so proud to share this work!
