MODERN FINERY / I begin with a panel of pure organic silk, which is then bathed in minerals and plant dyes, then botanically contact-printed with an assortment of fresh leaves & flowers through an alchemical steaming process.

NATURAL DYES THAT DON’T NEED A MORDANT— Cochineal (fuchsia), annatto (perfect peach 🍑), indigo, safflower (light pink), turmeric (yellow), walnut leaves (gray to brown), oak galls (gray/ beige/blue).
These are substantive dyes that don’t require a mordant to make color stick to fiber. These are perfect to experiment with, for children, or if you want to totally eliminate additional materials & metallic salts.
Of course, using a mordant will enhance the color, lightfastness, and wash fastness of these gorgeous hues. 🌿🌾🍃🌸🌼🍂
