NILI LOTAN DESIGNED IN TRIBECA, NYC
EST. 2003 Nili Lotan is a highly acclaimed ready-to-wear designer based in New York City. Lotan’s design process is highly intuitive.

A mother of three, she lives in Tribeca with her husband, singer songwriter, David Broza. After graduating from Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Tel Aviv, Lotan moved to New York where she led design for some of the industry’s most respected names including Ralph Lauren, Liz Claiborne and Nautica. Lotan launched her eponymous brand in 2003, grounded in the belief that a wardrobe should

function as an extension of oneself. Her philosophy is that clothes should be clean, sophisticated and functional, offering elements for self-expression. She is inspired by women with a strong sense of personal style, and draws from art, music and rock n’ roll to design her collection. By designing pieces she herself wants to wear, Lotan’s collection instinctively resonate with a woman’s lifestyle.

To celebrate the launch of our footwear collection, I put together a playlist of songs that have stayed with me for years. Several of the boots are named after Texas singer-songwriters whose music embodies the spirit of Americana that has always inspired me.
These are the songs I chose because they capture the attitude, freedom, and authenticity behind the collection. Lucinda Williams, especially, has been a constant source of inspiration. David and I have listened to her music together for many years.

Western Americana has always been part of my visual vocabulary. There’s something universally compelling about what we call Americana—the clothes, the music, the landscapes, and the spirit. Maybe it's because I came to it as an outsider—I wasn't interested in recreating it, but in interpreting it through my own lens. I'm drawn to its honesty, where denim, workwear, and Western details carry history, authenticity, and character.

I wanted to make sure my Western boot was distinct. To pursue my vision, I put all my intention into the design, quality, and exacting fit.

To differentiate the collection, I focused on one detail I could never find elsewhere: the perfect toe. I designed an elongated silhouette with a semi-pointed, rounded finish, inspired by the boots worn by rock and roll icons of the fifties, sixties, and seventies. The toe and heel were the two elements I worked on most, carefully refining every proportion until they felt entirely my own. Other finishing signature details unique to the collection include the custom Western topstitching and the signature three-nail detail.

Crafted from luxury Italian leathers and suedes and produced by premier factories in Italy and Spain, this collection reflects everything I believe in: authenticity, craftsmanship, and footwear that feels effortless, enduring, and unmistakably Nili Lotan.

My goal has never been to tell women how to dress, but to create clothing that supports the way they already live. I believe clothing should never feel imposed—it should feel intuitive. Real. Timeless. Ageless. Effortless. Pieces designed to become part of life, not define it.

The Western boot has always been part of my world. I never wanted to reinvent it—I wanted to reinterpret it through my own lens.

People often ask why Americana has remained such a constant in my work. For me, it has never been about the cowboy boot itself. It’s the music, the landscape, the storytelling, the independent spirit, and the authenticity of America that have always drawn me in.

The Western boot has also been embraced by generations of musicians, becoming a symbol of individuality and coolness. As I designed this collection, I looked to the references that have inspired me for years—from the Chelsea boots worn by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits to the Western styles of Keith Richards, Townes Van Zandt, Joni Mitchell, Steve Earle, Janis Joplin, and Loretta Lynn.

Each of the five boots in the collection is named after one of these enduring inspirations.

Crafted in Italy and Spain, every style is rooted in Western Americana while reflecting my own perspective—timeless, understated, and made to be lived in.
