Owner Christine Alcalay, a designer of her own label hand selects items from all over the world, from over 100 designers. So
ft scarves, lingerie, shoes, and statement-making jewelry can be found tucked between racks of clothing. Also don’t miss the back of the store with an entire “comfort” section filled with soft tees, leggings, hoodies, and wraps, and sale rack with a good selection of items. To keep it fresh and interesting for their clients, Kiwi re-organizes all the clothing racks every Thursday by grouping new textures and colors together to create unique pairings. It’s obvious the care they put into choosing the collections and meeting the needs of each season with new styles and brands that keep everyone coming back for more. This week for our new series Friday Faves, we sat down with Michelle to talk about what she’s been loving in the shop this season. Scroll through to see some of her favorite items in action and check out her full thoughts below!
First, Bold Knits - Transitioning into colder weather has always directly effected my mood. To combat that, I like to give myself a dose of dopamine this time of year by incorporating brighter hues and bolder colors into my wardrobe, specifically my sweaters. Michael Star’s Stevie Collared Pullover in Tangerine is a personal fave.
Midi/Maxi Skirts - I am currently in my skirt girl era. My preference being longer lengths to protect me from the cold. Adding midi and maxi skirts to my rotation has made getting dressed this fall fun! The Lea Skirt by Eleven Six is my fave in store.
Cozy Printed Pants - I am a creature of comfort. I love to layer fuller silhouettes. When I’m not in a skirt then I am 1000% in a wide leg pant. The Gretchen Pant in flannel by Christine Alcalay is a game changer this season.
Face Oil - Colder temperatures and dry skin is something I think we are all too familiar with. Making necessary adjustments to my skin care routine is the only way I get by. Le Prunier’s plum beauty oil is hands down my favorite skin care product in store. I use this stuff on my face and hair and it is the main reason why I look hydrated throughout the season.
Mules - Didn’t I mention I was a creature of comfort!? Sliding my foot in a cozy mule with my favorite bright colored socks is one of my favorite combinations for the season. Coclico’s Kera Clog is such a great shoe with the added shearling for warmth and comfort.

The search for the perfect (I mean PERFECT) tee is over. Meet the latest edition to our t-shirt collection, a Japanese brand called Sunray. These tees are made on an antique Loopwheel knitting machine. This is a slow knitting process. The result is a tee with no side seams and is knit with no tension on the yarn, which means it won’t twist or warp with wash and wear. Pretty cool, huh!

For this Friday’s appreciation post, I want to profess our love and admiration for this new-ish plant based boutique deli. They opened their doors last fall and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them a stones throw from us. From their freshly baked pastries, to the mouth watering japchae (seriously, you have to try it), to the most delightful chats with owner Cecily. This place fills a much needed void in the nabe. It’s no easy feet opening and running a new small biz, so go see Cecily and her crew and treat yourself to some majorly yummy vegan eats. So happy your on the Ave,
I have been using this oil and sunscreen for about 2 months and I’m not sure I can live without it now. My skin is soft, clear, and radiant. Extracted solely from organic plum seed. It is completely clean! No essential oils, parabens, sulfates, preservatives, added fragrance, or chemicals. And the smell is 💋. So happy to have these products on our shelves to share with you.
It’s Friday appreciate post day! At last, I’ve been waiting for the right moment to praise and express my appreciation to our friends at . We miss them being on the Avenue with us, BUT their space in Gowanus, their website, and their Airbnb fill that void- kind of. 😂 Courtney and Ari have been retail buddies for years and are our go-to for heirloom children’s toys and clothing. I often wish to wave a magic wand and make them my size. With a neighborhood like Park Slope filled with children and young families, they filled a niche in the beautiful handmade and thoughtful toys that our children will play with forever and maybe even keep for their kids. (Yes, that’s still a thing.) Thank you, , for being such great supporters of our team and for the beauty you bring and share.
Oh, it’s been too long since we’ve posted an appreciation post for small businesses in Brooklyn. This Friday, I want to zoom in on on the next block! If I can go back and think of all the times I’ve taken our kids, gotten lost in a shelf of books, or even each time I walk by and think about how lucky we are to have a community books store, there would be too many times to believe.
