I have a feeling these three would be excellent company... right up until they started critiquing your taste in books.

This new design is called The Caterati, and it's inspired by the small rituals so many of us treasure: settling into a favorite chair, opening a good novel, and sharing the afternoon with the animals who somehow always know exactly when it's time to read.

The titles on the cats' books are little jokes for fellow readers:
• A Cat of One's Own
• Lady Catterly's Lover
• Their Eyes Were Watching Cat

I love hiding details like these in my illustrations, and I hope they make people smile when they're discovered.

One of the questions I ask myself whenever I design something is:

"Will this actually make someone's day a little nicer?"

A grocery list isn't glamorous.

Neither is keeping track of pantry staples or remembering dog food before you run errands.

But if those everyday moments can happen on paper that makes you smile every time you reach for it…well, I think that's worth making.

One of my favorite things about creating Barky and Bookish is that an animal can begin as a watercolor portrait and eventually become part of someone's everyday life.

Edgar started that way.

I wanted him to have the sort of expression rabbit people know so well—calm, observant, quietly judging the situation without being unkind about it. 😊

Now he's keeping grocery lists, meal plans, recipes, and little reminders on refrigerators instead of living only in my imagination.

I think that's my favorite part of making useful art.

I've been thinking a lot about the Fourth of July this year.

Many of us grew up loving fireworks, cookouts, community celebrations, and the ideals America aspires to represent.

At the same time, many of us are watching attacks on democratic institutions, civil liberties, immigrants, protesters, and the rule of law with increasing alarm.

The upside-down American flag has long been recognized as a signal of distress.

So when I created this America 250 design, I used that symbol intentionally.

The result is a birthday cake that celebrates America's 250th year while refusing to pretend everything is fine.

For people who still love this country enough to worry about it.

The magnet is now available in multiple sizes for vehicles, refrigerators, coolers, lockers, and other magnetic surfaces.

I designed this piece around one specific symbol:

the upside-down American flag.

In the United States, it’s traditionally recognized as a signal of dire distress — and that felt like the only honest visual language for this moment in American history.

The design intentionally looks celebratory at first:
a patriotic cake.
Americana colors.
250 years.

But the longer you look, the more unsettling it becomes.

This isn’t nostalgia.
It’s a warning.

A response to the constitutional erosion, authoritarian cruelty, corruption, and democratic instability that have accelerated under Trump and the movement surrounding him.

Some people will see a garden flag.

Others will immediately understand exactly what it means.
