On my birthday driving down the road about midnight out by the road line, looking confused not moving, most likely just struck by a vehicle. I found this little guy not knowing what to do just standing there in the rain with looks like a broken wing & possibly some eye damage on the left side so of course, thinking quickly I kneel down beside him, rubbed his little head and whispered itβs OK. I got you, grabbed my sweatshirt from the car and carefully wrapped it around him to gently lift him and then brought him in for the night in the AM I brought him over to the Vermont sanctuary for birds in Quechee, Vermont, they specialize in owls and rehabilitation.
I named him SILO for the night, when you find a hurt owl, you should call your local fish and game and normally they will come out and handle the situation. However, since this was midnight and nobody was answering, I left a message and advised with my information.
It is illegal to keep an owl. They are strict regulated rules for housing owls you were working directly with a rehabilitation center. I just need to make sure I post that so you are aware.
Also, if you find yourself in a situation like mine, gently be very careful with picking up the bird. This bird I picked up was very docile. He just needed help.
But owls can be very dangerous so you need to be very careful.
In this particular case, he was just so happy that I picked him up. I held him in my arms very gently with my sweatshirt, rubbed his little head as he close his eyes, and I was super grateful to be able to take him to a place that attended to his needs right when I brought him in.
In addition, the best part of this is, I could check on him and I can go see him and check on his rehab - they will check on his eye, he is a barred owl
Iβm so grateful that he will live and make it through this and then I happen to be there at that given time
when they checked him over, they put him in an oxygen tank and he did have a little drooping onto his wing fractured is what they said and they're going to do a thorough check but most likely he will be recovering to the next couple of months and they gave me a tag number so 1 can check on him
What an amazing experience and place to have him I feel so comfortable that he will get the best care β€οΈπ¦
