Good day everyone!
This past election cycle, the voters of District 72 have spoken, and while this was not the outcome I hoped for, I respect the decision of the people.
Running for this office has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
I want to first congratulate my opponent on her victory. Campaigns can be competitive, but the work of serving our community is bigger than any one race. I wish her much success as she takes on the responsibility of representing District 72.
To every volunteer, supporter, donor, friend, neighbor and family member who stood with me during this campaign—thank you. As I knocked on doors, made phone calls, shared conversations, and believed deeply in the vision put forward for OUR community. I am incredibly grateful for each of you.
This campaign was never just about an election. It was about advocating for better opportunities, stronger neighborhoods, quality education, and ensuring every voice in our district is heard. Those values do not end.
While I am disappointed, I am not discouraged. Public service is not defined by one election. It is defined by the commitment we make to keep showing up, keep listening, and keep working for the people we care about.
As many of you know, I will continue to serve our community in every way I can. My dedication to District 72, to our families, our schools, and our future remains as strong as ever.
I ask that we move forward together—with respect, with hope, and with a shared commitment to making our community stronger.
Thank you again to so many for believing in me, for walking this journey with me, and for your continued love and support. Even to the ones that told me to my face that its enough in one community to make sure I did not get elected or they won't let an outsider represent them, HA! My children are products of NLRSD AND I live here and have for MANY years. Please know being born in a particular city is not a prerequisite.
As a daughter of young man born and raised in Military Heights and McAlmont in NLR and a student of SA Jones High and a young lady from John Barrow and Central High, that both excelled in education with multiple degrees and careers they both excelled in, birthed a LIVING LEGEND (as I tell my mother🤣😁) that entertained all my 4 sports in school and pushed both their children to obtain college degrees, I ran on my name and not of my deceased father or my great uncle that is 1 of the NLR 6 but just me, grit and hard work.
Service is not new for me, but PUBLIC SERVICE was a journey that started around 5 years ago with 2 successful elected terms with NLRSD. BOE members Tracy Steele and my good childhood friend Taniesha Richardson urged me to run for a soon to be open seat back in 2020. My former HS teacher Joyce Elliott was running for US Congress and encouraged me and expressed how proud she was of me. Charles and Racine Jones, my neighbors, have seen me work tirelessly for our children, community and overall want better for EVERYONE no matter the zone. I may NOT have been born in NLR but I have been here for 20 + years and love my community and guess what, I will KEEP showing up!
LASTLY, to my students AND staff of NLRSD, keep doing the right thing when no one is looking and never stop striving for BETTER for us ALL! Students, remember, what Ms. Angela have always told you SERVICE ABOVE SELF! Be active in your community, church, do your best in school, stay out the prison system and get your education, leave the babies where they are, be respectful and give back!
To my beautiful mother, you BIRTHED a legacy of service and to my late father, I am thankful for giving me the gift of fighting for equity and equality. To my constituents, friends, community and supporters, I AM NOT DONE AND STAY TUNED TO THE NEXT EPISODE!
In service,
Angela
