It really is bittersweet. Greece is known for its many community cats, and you’ll see them wandering through villages, sitting outside tavernas, lounging in the sunshine, and making themselves at home just about everywhere.
Many are cared for by locals and business owners who put out food and water, which is why some look surprisingly healthy. There are also volunteer groups that feed, provide veterinary care, and arrange spaying and neutering.
Still, it’s sad to think about how many don’t have a home, regular medical care, or someone to call their own. They may look content basking in the Greek sunshine, but life on the streets isn’t always easy.
I imagine it’s especially hard when you’re an animal lover.
