Painting by Deborah Vinograd, 22X15 inches, acrylic on canvas $75

Deborah Vinograd graduated from art school in Irvine in 1973 and painted in her rent-controlled Berkeley walk-up for 49 years. She had a show lined up in one of the best galleries in San Francisco in her youth, but then schizophrenia struck. She didn’t have a show until 40 years later, but she painted 8-10 hours every day. Her work was featured in Tom Dalzell’s Quirky Berkeley and in shows in Alameda and Berkeley.

Debbie meant for her work to be unframed, which is why she painted the sides/edges of the canvas as well.

Poetry Chapbooks by Heather Flescher

Heather Flescher is the co-founder of the Curated Words performance salon in Pacific Grove and was a regular at the Rubber Chicken poetry slam in Monterey for over a decade. Her play, "Daughters of Nothing", was produced by the Paper Wing theatre company. She is a recurring performer at Beast Crawl in Oakland. She wrote and assembled her first book when she was four years old, and she has gotten better at it since then.

Heather is donating one copy of each of her three poetry chapbooks for sale. Each has 48 pages of her writing. She is REALLY good.

Coral, Agate, Obsidian, Seeds, & Lacquered Carved Wood Necklace Hand-Beaded by Julia Vinograd $60.00

Poet Julia Vinograd (1943-2018) was also known as Berkeley’s Bubble Lady and was my friend and poetry mentor. She edited my first chapbook and my first full-length poetry book and got my work published by Zeitgeist Press. She hand-beaded beautiful necklaces as gifts for her friends and gave this one to me one Christmas. The quarter in the photo is for scale.

Chappell Holt is an artist, a professional seamstress specializing in restoration of vintage and antique clothing and accessories, as well as paintings, mannequins, figurines, and is a graphics designer. She has taught art classes and demonstrations for many art groups. Also a guitarist/singer-songwriter, she performs and records with husband Dave Holt.

Dave Holt began putting his poems to music and this led to a move to California from Toronto, Ontario, to seek recognition as a songwriter. He played and recorded with several music acts in the Bay Area and wrote music for theater, embarked on his Poet career after graduation from San Francisco State U. in Creative Writing, Masters 1995. Currently he teaches young beginners and adult non-beginners piano and music theory.

This Chinese propaganda poster is titled “Little guests in the Moon Palace” by Yuegong xiao keren, from the 1970s. It was chosen as the front cover for the book Chinese Propaganda Posters by Stefan Landsberger, The Pepin Press, Amsterdam & Singapore, 1995. It was inspired by Russian propaganda posters about its space program in the 1960s.

Framed Blossom Painting w/ Calligraphy, watercolor & ink, 24 x 35 inches $200

The donor bought this painting from the Vietnamese artist, Duc To, who was living in America in 1993. A professor of East Asian Studies in our family tells us the kanji and style of painting look Chinese, and the inscription suggests that the flowers might be pink artemisia rather than plum or cherry. He says the fourth character is unclear, but the inscription might say "Modest artemisia on a night in 1993."
