I find myself often explaining how and why I started ChowBaby and because itās such a great story I am going to share it with you all. The day we got the green light to start giving Ella solids I was THRILLED⦠finally I could sit with her in my lap and we could share a meal together⦠even if that meal was baby food. So, I did what most parents do and I went out and bought the most expensive jar of organic carrot baby food (because if itās expensive itās gotta be good⦠right?). Well, Iām sitting at the dining room table ready for this legendary moment (cue the angels singing) ⦠I open the jar, dip her little green spoon in and take a big mouth full... (angels singing are cut off by screeching tire) to say that I was disappointed was an understatement, the baby food was salty, didnāt taste like carrots and it had a slightly sour after taste. I immediately thought if I wouldnāt eat this, Iām not feeding it to my daughter. So, I ran out bought a bag of organic carrots, steamed them and pureed them. I was shocked by not only the drastic color difference between the two (mine was a vibrant orange and the jar was a drab orangey-yellow) but also the taste was exactly what you would expect steamed carrots to taste like. Needless to say I did end up getting my legendary first moment and the best part was that the purĆ©e was so good we ended up eating it as a side to dinner.
