As a pediatric growth specialist, one of the biggest misconceptions I hear from parents is:
*"Height is 100% genetic. If my child is meant to be tall, they will be tall."*
Genetics certainly play an important role, but that's only part of the story.
What many parents don't realize is that a child's growth depends on much more than genetics alone. During childhood and adolescence, the body relies on a combination of nutrition, sleep quality, hormone signaling, bone development, and overall health to support normal growth and development.
The key factor is timing.
Children grow while their growth plates remain open. These growth plates are specialized areas of cartilage located near the ends of long bones. During the growing years, they gradually produce new bone tissue that allows the skeleton to lengthen.
Once growth plates close, natural height growth comes to an end.
That's why the years before growth plate closure are so important.
Over the years, I've noticed that many parents focus almost exclusively on calcium. While calcium is important, it is only one piece of a much larger picture.
For healthy bone development, the body also needs Vitamin D3.
Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium efficiently. Without adequate Vitamin D3, a significant portion of dietary calcium may never be properly utilized.
Vitamin K2 is another critical nutrient because it helps support the body's natural process of directing calcium toward bones and teeth.
But growth is not only about bones.
The body also relies on specific amino acids that play important roles in growth-related pathways and protein synthesis.
Among the most researched are L-Arginine and L-Ornithine.
These amino acids participate in important metabolic processes involved in growth, tissue development, recovery, and normal growth hormone signaling.
That is why daytime nutrition matters.
During the day, children need the nutritional building blocks that support healthy development, bone formation, muscle growth, and overall wellness.
This is where I CAN GROW Day-Time was designed to help.
Its formula provides key nutrients commonly associated with growth-stage nutrition, including:
• Vitamin D3
• Vitamin K2 (MK-7)
• Calcium
• Zinc
• L-Arginine
• L-Ornithine
• L-Glutamine
• Additional growth-supportive nutrients
However, there is another factor many parents overlook:
Sleep.
Most natural growth hormone release occurs during deep sleep.
The body does some of its most important repair, recovery, and growth-related work while a child is sleeping.
If daytime nutrition provides the building blocks, nighttime recovery provides the opportunity for the body to use them.
That is why I believe growth support should not stop when the sun goes down.
I CAN GROW Night-Time was specifically formulated to complement daytime nutrition by supporting healthy relaxation and restorative sleep.
Its formula includes:
• Magnesium Bisglycinate – a highly bioavailable form of magnesium known for its gentle absorption and support of relaxation.
• GABA – a naturally occurring neurotransmitter involved in relaxation pathways.
• L-Theanine – commonly used to promote calmness without drowsiness.
• Lemon Balm – traditionally used to support relaxation and nighttime wellness.
• L-Glutamine – an important amino acid involved in recovery and tissue support.
• L-Ornithine – which continues supporting important growth-related metabolic pathways.
• Vitamin K2 (MK-7) – helping support ongoing bone health.
Together, these nutrients help create an environment that supports recovery, relaxation, and healthy sleep habits.
What makes this approach different is that it recognizes an important truth:
Growth is not a daytime event.
Growth is a 24-hour process.
During the day, children need nutritional support for growing bones, muscles, and tissues.
At night, they need support for rest, recovery, and the natural processes that occur during deep sleep.
That is why I CAN GROW Day-Time and I CAN GROW Night-Time were designed as a complete system.
One supports the body while children are awake.
The other supports the body while they sleep.
Because healthy growth isn't built in a few hours.
It's supported every day and every night throughout the years that matter most.
As always, no supplement can change a child's genetics, and no responsible healthcare professional can predict exactly how tall a child will become.
However, providing proper nutrition, quality sleep, and consistent daily support helps ensure children have the nutritional foundation they need during their natural growth years.
And that is something every parent can feel good about supporting.
