...the name that is above all names, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and under the earth. Philippians 2: 9-10
The angel Gabriel visited Mary and then Joseph to tell them of the amazing news of their miraculous baby. Gabriel said His name would be Jesus, a nod to both His identity and what His mission on earth would be. Jesus means 'God saves.'
Jesus came to save each one of us from our sins. Sin is anything that we say, do, or think that goes against what God wants. Sin separates us from God, and Jesus came to close that gap. Sin is a disease that has been passed down through every generation of mankind. We have all been born as and live as sinners.
But, Jesus. Jesus was born as a baby in a manger so He could live on earth, walk as a human, hurt as a human, laugh and love as a human, and die as a sacrifice in our place.
Someday, every knee will bow at the mention of the name that was once uttered by an angel.
Do you know Him?

This verse was written generations and generations before Jesus was born. Micah wanted to tell everyone that there would be a Messiah coming, that He would not come to destroy in judgment but to bring peace to those who obeyed God.
This verse reminds us that Jesus will appear great to all men throughout the world where His gospel (the good news of salvation) would be preached and shared. His kingdom would be stable and everlasting. All of His people, both Jews and Gentiles, would dwell in His safety.
And now, generations and generations after Jesus was born in the manger then died on the cross, the message is still the same. There is a Savior coming. He wants to offer us stability, calm, and peace in the midst of the chaos and anxiety of this world. He wants to guard us and watch over us, day and night, just like a good shepherd. .
As we inch nearer and nearer to Christmas, let's prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior.
Do you know Him?

Bethlehem is in the hill country right outside of Jerusalem. It was a tiny, insignificant city two thousand years ago. Today, we know it as the birth place of our Lord. The book of Genesis first mentioned Bethlehem, calling it the "house of bread." Lots of interesting events in the Old Testament happened in Bethlehem, including the love story of Boaz and Ruth, the burial place of the beloved Rachel and the hometown of King David. There was a promise to Bethlehem that even though it was a humble little city, it would be used in God's mighty plan of salvation.
It wasn't until Joseph and his pregnant teenage fiance, Mary, traveled about 80 miles to Bethlehem that the amazing happened. Prophecies made and promises kept, that little humble city became the hometown of Jesus, the Alpha, and the Omega. The King of Kings chose Bethlehem to be where He lay in a manger of hay in a lowly stable.
The house of bread gave us the Bread Of Life. God chose to use the humble and the lowly in the birth story of His Son. God chooses to use the humble and lowly still today.
If you question if, how, why God would choose to use you, remember the house of bread. The quiet, small, unassuming town of Bethlehem. God chose to mark it forever as the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
Trust that He has big and good plans for you, too.

Let's meet back here for the next seven Sundays for a little advent scripture about Christmas! We want Christmas 2025 to be full of peace and joy, so getting our hearts ready for that little babe in the manger is so important.
This verse from Isaiah was written about 700 years before the birth of Jesus. It was a prophecy or a promise to the country of Israel. They desperately wanted to be saved because they were living as slaves and exiles. The promise in this verse was that there would be a leader sent to them, and this Messiah would rule in peace. He would offer hope to those living and walking in darkness.
700 BC and 2025, we still want that promise of peace, hope, and light in the darkness. That promise did not change or expire. It is still true today. We can only find the promise in the life and death of Jesus Christ.
Do you know Him?
