This dress is actually mine! Occasionally I get to fix my own items. 😅 The side seam ripped and the fabric frayed quite a bit in the process! I used a lightning stitch to sew it back together, and did a few rows over the serged edge to make it really secure and less likely to pull again.

Not my typical post. 😅 This trusty machine has been working overtime lately and needed some TLC! I’ve been using it for about 15 years, and have only really ever cleaned out the lint around the bobbin, but she started acting up, so it was time for a full cleaning and oiling, because “the sew must go on!” 🧵 🪡 ✨

Alright, this is a LOT of pictures! But look at these gorgeous pants! 😍 Wool houndstooth with a blind hem that needed a few inches taken off! The first step was measuring (and taking lots of pictures of course), then removing the commercial blind hem and tiny bias tape. More measuring and cutting, and then reattaching the bias tape and hand sewing a new blind hem with a fancy little herringbone stitch!

Here’s a basic pants hem! If you hem pants that have a taper, you’ll need to open up the side seam in one way or another...

Here’s a basic pants hem! If you hem pants that have a taper, you’ll need to open up the side seam in one way or another, otherwise you’ll get puckering because the total circumference of the very end is shorter than the total circumference of the higher part where you fold the edge up!

This gorgeous dress (with fragile fabric!) had completely come apart at the seam. I reinforced the straps back in place and used a “lightning stitch” to sew the layers back together. A straight stitch would allow the edge to fray and come apart again, but a zig-zag wouldn’t allow it to lay very nicely—the lightning stitch is the perfect medium!

Another unique project! This purse’s zipper was getting worn, and the owner didn’t like having to put it back together like a jacket every time, so I reinforced the end and found a matching vinyl on Etsy to make a tab that keeps the end of the zipper intact and makes it easier to zip! It’s exactly what she wanted. 🙌🏻✨
