What's the difference between a quilt and blanket, duvet and comforter???

A quilt is made up of three layers, a top layer of fabrics m, sometimes sewn patchwork from many pieces of fabrics sewn together into a quilt top (often 100% cotton, but not always), a middle layer of (insulating) batting, insulating for warmth, (batting is a thick, fluffy layer of 100% cotton, or 100% polyester, or wool, etc, and another bottom layer of fabric, usually similar to the type of fabric on the top layer. Then the three layers are sewn together by quilting them together, to make one piece of fabric joined together into one. (The sewing needle goes through the top layer, through the middle layer, to the back layer, then back up through all three layers again and again and again.)

A blanket is usually woven of just one type of fabric, (cotton or polyester or wool or a cotton/polyester blend) often woven on a loom. It's usually one piece of fabric. (Sometimes knitted or crochet'd like an Afghan made of yarn.)

A duvet is usually a loose sack made of fabric filled with feathers, or down from feathers.

A quilt CAN be a comforter, if it is made very fluffy with a high pile of 100% polyester batting.

Quilts are generally MUCH flatter than comforters. Comforters are big and fluffy! Quilts are thin, yet VERY dense, and warm!!

But DON’T … EVER … call a blanket a quilt!!
