Most of those who embark on the process of repentance, which involves leaving off the sin completely, feeling remorse and making an intention never to do it again, don’t follow through and turn back on their heels. They cannot fathom giving up what they love and enjoy, even if it means risking the spiritual salvation of their hearts and souls, and most importantly, risking their hereafter. But the smart individual, who has been granted success by Allah, knows that the sweetness and enjoyment associated with obedience to Allah is far greater than the [instant] gratification associated with holding on the sin ( or sinful behavior). Allah says, “Not equal are those who know and those who don’t know. Indeed only those who have understanding will take heed” (Al Qur’an 39:9)
