MG played an incredible role in the development and global adoption of the sports car, even paving the way in the USA for the acceptance of the Porsche 356. To celebrate that history, I've designed a brand new collection of shirts, up cycling and repurposing a variety of period advertising illustrations, headlines, taglines, and typography.

Here's to a 100 years since the founding of Morris Garages Ltd!

I just dropped four new holiday designs for the Porsche-passionate. All printing in-house next week. This is “Joy of Driving” featuring the steering wheels of the 356, 930, and 901.

Check it out in the shop, and explore all of the new designs.

Here’s the first of several new designs for the holidays this year, and the first ever holiday design to print in-house at the new Carpe Viam print shop.

My original concept for the design was simply an enormous tree being hauled on a transporter, which would be novel enough. But as I sketched, I fell in love with the idea of the tree being hauled by the iconic Le Mans-winning Porsche SL, which is in turn, being hauled by a Dove blue transporter.

Look closely and you’ll even see the silhouette of one “Mr. Claus” behind the wheel handling the delivery of this epic combo of holiday cheer from Stuttgart (and Gmünd).

“Lineage RS" is the third in my new "LINEAGE" series. An on-going series, the initial four pieces include the 550 Spyder, 356A Speedster, 904 GTS, and the 1973 911 RS. These 22x22" originals stand beautifully alone, and will make a stunning grouping for the single collector who has already claimed them. Prints will be available beginning next week in original size or a smaller 12x12" format.

All pieces are illustrated with hand-pulled ink lines using an antique dip pen on fine heavy-weight cotton paper with natural deckled edge top and bottom.

The rights for Rudolf® were cost prohibitive, and so I present to you, a NEW holiday shirt with the logo of the 4TH MOST IMPORTANT REINDEER!

As I sketched possibilities for a new Christmas release this year, I had an idea that made me laugh out loud. That could be insanity – but I took it as a sign that I might be on to something. Despite how familiar this feels, not one line of the animal is shared with the original. It turns out that deer are a very different shape than horses, and pulling this illusion off was a bit harder than I expected.

Now, before you get all excited and attempt to purchase this shirt, please know that not everyone qualifies. You must have purchased at least 3 previous holiday shirts from Carpe Viam, and even after that, must be approved by the management. Just kidding. Can't resist a good Ferrari joke when riffing off the marque...

Epic Drama is at hand. In March of this year, brilliant and innovative automotive photographer Bill Pack reached out with the opportunity to collaborate on a book with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, telling the story of the Indianapolis 500 in a new way. The challenge being that my calendar for the year was already full, and that Bill would need to work at more than double his standard pace to meet the deadline.

We were given total access to the cars and archives in the vault of the Museum, and got to work. Bill set up a studio of sorts in the basement of the museum shooting a total of over 850 images. I spent just 3 days there, beginning with an extensive tour, then a couple days in the basement and library. After my time at Indy, I acquired 27 total books on the Indy 500, the cars, and the people, and dug in. The stories were moving. Some exciting; some sad, moving me deeply.

The book features 34 winning cars across the 106 years of the 500. It is an art book, combining Bill's incredible photos and my text, with the amazing design work of the award-winning Lionel Ferreira.

This week we received the first production copies. The book will make its official debut in December at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

I have just one original 250 GTO gesture sketch available in the shop. It’s one of my early explorations for the art for the Hagerty stock certificates. A fun project that ended up far different than this!

This year I had the opportunity to design a new award for the Corvette Hall of Fame. Tonight the new trophy debuts and is awarded to Ed Welburn, the first ever Global Head of Design for GM, to Gary Pratt & Jim Miller – founders of Pratt & Miller Engineering, and posthumously to Elfi Arkus-Duntov – the first lady of Corvette.

It was my goal, when trusted with the creation of this new Corvette Hall of Fame trophy, to craft something that celebrated the essence of Corvette.

I created the graceful curve of the red spire with the signature white inset to speak to both the innovative history of the early cars, as well as to the design of the Hall of Fame itself. The hard edge of the carbon fiber blade celebrates the present and future of the new C8 and beyond.

By mixing old school and state-of-the-art materials and production techniques, I believe that this new trophy both commemorates the car’s amazing heritage and recognizes the incredible future of Corvette.

NEW TEE IN THE SHOP!

A year or so ago, when the SL's owner and I were collaborating on my book Destined for Victory, we explored the idea of some associated t-shirt designs. One of the favorites was this blueprint design, using the design drawings I had created for the inside back cover of the book.

I've finally stocked them and they are now available in the shop. As always, premium soft cotton tees, and original art.

I’m poking my head out tonight just to say “hello”. After months of work, I’ve just completed my contribution to what promises to be an amazing book for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum . In as few words as possible, I have told the stories of 34 Indy 500 winning cars. With the unbelievable photographs of the incomparable , and design by , I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of such an incredible product.

Hundreds of hours of research have delighted, thrilled–and brought me to tears. There are so many incredible stories in the history of the Indy 500, and a couple that I am confident need to have their own books.

I look forward to sharing this beautiful new piece of art with you later this year!
