The Pumpkin Barn

The Pumpkin Barn Specializing in handmade items perfect for gifts! I have been crocheting and making various other handmade crafts for over twenty years.

My maternal grandmother taught me the basics of crocheting, and through involvement in t...he Duncannon Cloverleaf 4-H Club, I expanded my knowledge and experience. My mother also played a large part in teaching me to quilt and sew and served as a 4-H project leader as well. Through the years, I've enjoyed dabbling in various crafts, most recently picking up making personalized wire hangers. Addit

ionally, I enjoy canning and have been asked to make a few specialized orders as well. Recently married, my husband's cousin shared her talent with us as our engagement and wedding photographer, as she is starting her own photography business (dandelionJOYphotography). Although we were her first engagement/wedding, she has expanded her repertoire to include newborns/kids/families. At the same time, a lot of my peers are having babies of their own have their children photographed in ADORABLE animal hats. Both of these things, combined with Pinterest, led me to offer to make crocheted infant hats/accessories for dandelionJOYphotography photo props (I always am looking for a good excuse to crochet!). As soon as I finished the first two hats (frog and owl), I received a lot of positive feedback, and so I've decided to run with it! In the past, I've also made personalized, framed crochet "name" doilies as wedding presents, and have had a few requested to make as well.

🐮 Finished this adorable Highland Coo at 3:30 AM for tonight’s benefit silent auction!
(And nope, that’s not a typo—this Scottish breed’s nickname comes from the Gaelic word “coo,” meaning cow. 🏴)

🧵 When I cut the fabric, I made enough for a second quilt—so stay tuned for another one this summer!
Still learning the longarming process… honestly, I almost liked the pieced top better before quilting and washing. 😅

✨ Pattern: “Back Home” from GE Designs’ Master Your Stripology
✂️ Challenge: Cut everything using my two Stripology rulers
🪡 Quilting: Sweet Dreams Quilt Studio’s “Go Lions” pano

I was skeptical about the flying geese at first 😅… but wow, they were so easy using the Stripology Squared Mini Ruler.

Thrilled the winning bid means it’s going to a home where it’ll be appreciated! 🏡

Just over here documenting the first quilt hot off the press of my brand new longarm 🥰 (5.21.2025)

I hope to take and post some photos after it is gifted. Who gifts their first longarmmed quilt with all the mistakes? 🤣🫣

This is the quilt that got me back into creating quilts some 20(+/-) years after I made my last one. I was binging Yellowstone in early 2023 and saw a quilt in a scene with Beth on the porch of Rip’s cabin and immediately was drawn to it and knew I could make one. I finally found a pattern (“Let ‘Er Rip”) and fabric from The Quilted Cow . I began, and pretty much finished, piecing it in 2023. I started with a cheap Brother machine and then finished the remainder of the piecing (and everything else) on my new-to-me BERNINA USA 770QE that I purchased in November 2023. I knew from the beginning I wanted to quilt it with double-stranded barbed wire, but I didn’t know how I was going to go about it. It then took me until sometime later in 2024 when I finally just jumped in using my BSR and free-motion quilted the barbed wire. I finished up the binding and label just in time to have it finished before the calendar switched to 2025. The label also took me a bit to complete because the embroidery module that came with my Bernina 770QE intimidated me, but once I again I finally just jumped in making it. And, truthfully, I finally hand-stitched the label down on January 3, 2025.

I learned a lot with this quilt, and although it isn’t perfect, it is FINALLY done…and is a favorite of mine. Now to just not be afraid of making it dirty/ruining it and actually USE it.

Big thanks to my husband (CHT Crane Service, LLC) who humored me on taking my quilt for a four mile walk today (1.4.25) on one of the most blustery days of the winter so far for a quilt photo shoot. Like a quilting friend of mine said…it’s good to get quilts out of the house sometime.

I looked for a long time for a quilt pattern with a very specific design element to make for someone who means the 🌎 to me. I finally settled on Lo & Behold Stitchery 's . This is actually the second Homecoming quilt I pieced, but the first I completely finished. I pieced one for myself as a practice run in May before tackling this very important one; eventually I'll get around to quilting that one.

I recently found Lo & Behold Stitchery while I was looking for a quilt pattern with a specific design element as a gift for someone very special to me. I won't reveal that pattern yet, or share pictures of the quilt top I already pieced for myself as "practice" before I complete and gift the one that started me on this journey with Lo & Behold Stitchery (stay tuned!). However I had so much fun with the project and now "I'm in!" for Lo & Behold Stitchery's Triangle School!

I first fell in love with the beautiful and then I saw the quilt was featured in Triangle School. One of the next quilts in my "project queue" is a triangle-based quilt so it made complete sense to me to enroll in the upcoming Triangle School that starts October 7.

And it is off to The Seeing Eye, Inc.! Sewing on the hanging sleeve turned out to be a bit of a challenge but I figured it out. Finished the hand sewing of the sleeve and label yesterday.

The Seeing Eye’s 2023 Online Auction will take place April 27 through May 10, 2023. Proceeds from this annual event go directly toward fulfilling our mission to nurture the partnership between specially trained Seeing Eye® dogs and people with vision loss.
