Meet the local maker behind these beautiful, one of a kind upcycled shorts! 💕
Hi, I’m Caity! I started Shop Jonna this year and named it after my late mom, Jonna, who was the most creative person I knew. I live in Kingston with my husband, and I love all things vintage, fashion, and upcycling.
My mom taught me to sew when I was a kid, and after taking a sewing class at North River Arts Society with Olivia Harvey last year, I completely fell back in love with it. I had been searching for the perfect pair of summer beach shorts, so one day I headed to Savers and decided to make my own. I started sharing them on social media this summer and was blown away by the response—they quickly turned into a steady stream of custom orders!
By day, I work a corporate job, and in my free time you’ll usually find me at my sewing machine creating shorts and dreaming up new projects. When I’m not sewing, I love spending time on the boat, at the beach, reading, traveling, and trying new restaurants.
Every piece I make starts with secondhand materials. I source men’s shirts and fabrics from thrift stores because I love giving beautiful textiles a second life. While sustainability is an important part of what I do, what inspires me most is the process of transforming something overlooked into something fresh, functional, and unique.
I primarily work with vintage Ralph Lauren men’s shirts, turning them into one-of-a-kind beach and summer shorts. I’ve also expanded into tote bags, beach bags, purses, and other accessories. One of my favorite parts of the process is mixing unexpected colors, patterns, and textures to create pieces that feel fun, timeless, and completely original.
Creating with my hands has become such a fulfilling creative outlet, and it means so much to share these pieces with people who appreciate handmade, one-of-a-kind items. 🩳👔🐴🫶
