EN: having to bear witness to my home in such a state of destruction have felt like a heart wrenching lifetime this past three days.
After a catastrophic 7.4 mag earthquake struck Colombia on Monday August 10th, large areas across the west of Colombia were devastated. My hometown, Pereira, which I hold so close to my heart, was heavily impacted. From abroad, I’ve watched with tears in my eyes many buildings and institutions that saw me grow up turned into rubble. And despite all the horrors that have transpire, I have seen so many of my people rise without hesitation to help everyone in need. At the moment, moment, most of the help is focusing in search and rescue, as well as gathering supplies for families who lost everything. Now, I ask you, my dear art community, to please help Colombia either by amplifying this message, or directly donating to the resources I’m sharing below. Every cent counts.
Cruz Roja Colombiana - is directly helping with national efforts of search and rescue, reestablishment of city water, communications, and family reunification.
Manos Visibles - is directly supporting financial aid to Chocó the epicenter of the earthquake. And one of the most severely underserved department with a predominant BIPOC community.
Plan International - is coordinating efforts to help children, teens and their affected families
Give To Colombia - is gathering efforts to help vulnerable and underserved communities affected by the earthquake.
Asociación de Bancos de Alimentos de Colombia & Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá - are activating and organizing national food banks to be able to provide nourishment to affected families and their pets.
COLMILLO - our risograph press friends, located in Bogota, are coordinating an indie crowdfunding to donate financial aid to support affected communities.
If you have read this far, gracias 🥺 Colombia is so full of life, hope and resilience, but after this tragedy, my people are gonna need a lot of sustained support ❤️🩹
Con mucho amor, Naty.
