Last night, during a livestream with my buddy, Pat McNamara, I said, “All success comes down to you winning a 10-minute daily battle.”
It’s true. Ten minutes is all that stands between you and what you want. Here’s how…
All success and achievement comes down to one thing: getting yourself to do the things you need to do when you don’t feel like doing them.
We call that self-discipline or willpower.
What could you achieve if sticking to a diet, going to the gym, saving money, using spare time wisely, or acting differently were things you did daily without fail?
Why don’t we do those things?
We don’t do them because most of the time we don’t “feel like” doing them.
In other words, we live with an inner voice that keeps talking us out of what we say we want.
But there’s another truth that gets neglected…
It only takes about 10 minutes of doing something you don’t want to do before the “want to” kicks in naturally.
You dread cleaning out the garage, but you start anyway, and after 10 minutes, you’re into it, and the momentum builds in your favor.
You don’t feel like practicing guitar today, but you start anyway, and after 10 minutes, you’re into it, and the momentum builds in your favor.
Therefore, the real battle to create what you want in life comes down to winning that 10-minute fight with yourself.
Don’t think about how long it takes to achieve a goal.
Don’t even think about an entire day.
Just think, “If I get up and start moving, I’ll be into it enough to build momentum in just 10 minutes.”
And then repeat that each time you come up against your own resistance to doing what you need to do.
And the bonus is that it gets even easier because your mind starts to change as it gets used to minimizing laziness and magnifying outcomes.
In other words, the battles with yourself will be less as your mind thinks, “just 10 minutes, and I’m closer to my goal!”
Because right now you’re thinking, “A ten-minute battle every day? That’ll get old real quick!”
And THAT is the voice we want to change, and it will change as you paint a different picture of doing the daily disciplines that create your dreams.
The reason your outlook changes, and will change quickly, is because it’s not just “positive thinking.”
It’s changing your beliefs and outlook by attaching new beliefs to actions that you can SEE… daily!
We believe what we see, right?
And once you start winning 10-minute battles, you’ll be SEEING yourself as an achiever and not a procrastinator.
You’ll start to see yourself as self-disciplined rather than lazy.
Put this to the test today and watch what happens.
