The Caring Clothes Closet is a local project designed to address the immediate needs of people in the Richmond, Virginia Metro Area by providing free clothing to families experiencing financial difficulties or crisis. If you are in need or know someone who is, please contact us by PM (Private Message)! Forward any needs, individual or those of an organization, and the needs will be met on a first come, first serve basis based on the contents of the closet. New or gently used clothing of any gender, any size. We are always in need of new under garments and socks for kids of all ages! As temperatures cool down and kids reach for their fall wardrobes, we’re looking for the items our families need most right now. If your kids have outgrown their fall clothes, this is a great time to pass them along to the Caring Closet!

We’re always grateful for casual clothing donations in all sizes, but the items featured here are especially needed this month.

Today, The Caring Closet had the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Community Partner Resource Fair!

We're grateful to connect with child & family social workers and fellow community partners in the Richmond metro-area who are all working together to support children and families in our community.

We’re proud to be part of a network of organizations committed to making sure families have access to the resources and support they need! A special thank you to For Richmond and Worthdays for organizing such an impactful event!

Save the date! Saturday donation days are so popular, we’re offering TWO in October, from 10am-12pm:

We’ll be collecting casual clothing for children, teens, and adults. Donations should be clean, in excellent condition, and perfect for the fall and winter.

We can be a little tricky to find, so if you have questions about where to drop off or what we accept, email us at [email protected].

Today, we’re shining a light on the important role clothing plays in the lives of children!

When children have access to clothing that fits and makes them feel good, they feel confident at school, friendships flourish through a greater sense of belonging, and they can play and explore confidently!

At the Caring Closet, we believe every child deserves to feel confident and ready to take on the day.

A heartfelt thank you to From the Heart Stitchers for their incredible generosity! They recently donated an amazing collection of handmade duffle bags, fleece blankets, pencil pouches, and more to The Caring Closet.

Every item was lovingly crafted by their volunteers and you can truly feel the care stitched into each one.

Our volunteers, Lizzy and Julia, were busy organizing each thoughtful creation, which will become part of care bags that bring encouragement and a little extra joy to children in our community.

A huge THANK YOU to Shood for their incredibly generous donation of 50 pairs of women’s and men’s tennis shoes!

These shoes are about to go from our donation room to the feet of local high school students we’ll be serving in the coming weeks and we couldn’t be more excited!

Of course, before they can find their new homes, there’s a little behind-the-scenes magic to be done! Our amazing volunteers - Kathryn , Peggy, and Karen - have been busy sorting, sizing and getting every pair ready to go.

We’re so grateful to SHOOD for helping local teens put their best foot forward this school year!

Now that the kids are back in school, it’s a great time to take a look through their closets and see what they’ve outgrown. We’re collecting children’s clothing in all sizes, but we’re especially looking for the featured items, including school appropriate clothing, tennis shoes, and winter coats!

All clothing should be clean, in excellent condition, and ready for another child to love.

Thank you to everyone who has donated a pair of tennis shoes! 👟

Whether you donated a pair for a child or a teen, you’re helping students in our community start the school year off on the right foot!

To serve more than 100 school-aged children of all ages, we’re still collecting new and gently-used tennis shoes in all sizes, with an especially big need for children’s and youth sizes.

Did you know the Caring Closet also serves the youngest members of our community—babies!

While we’re well-stocked on most diaper and pull-up sizes, we are completely out of size 7 diapers and size 6T/7T pull-ups. If you’re able to donate a box, we would be forever grateful!

We are so thankful for our generous partners at United Bank’s Virginia Center Branch! 💙

Each summer, their team faithfully hosts a clothing collection to help us stock our racks in preparation for back-to-school season. This year, they collected more than 15 shopping bags overflowing with clothing to help outfit students for school, along with countless pairs of jeans for teens!
