To the Horse Moms & Weekend Horse moms:

The ones standing at the trailer before daylight, coffee in hand, already sweating before most people are even awake.

The ones who know how to braid hair, pin a number, tighten a cinch, find a missing glove, calm a nervous kid, and somehow remember what time they run...all at the same time.

The ones hauling horses down the highway, eating gas station dinners, washing muddy jeans at midnight, and spending more money on entry fees than they probably want to admit.

You’re the one behind the fence holding your breath.

You know every goal they’ve set. Every time they’ve cried because they weren’t fast enough. Every horse they’ve loved. Every setback they’ve fought through. Every little win that nobody else noticed.

And whether they leave with a buckle or a knocked barrel… you’re still there.

Reminding them to be humble when they win and gracious when they lose.

Teaching them that the rodeo/barrel race/horse show was never *just* about winning.

It’s about responsibility. Hard work. Taking care of something bigger than yourself. Getting back on after a bad run WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE. CHEERING for the kid who might beat you. Learning that sometimes you can do everything right and still NOT get the outcome you wanted.

One day, the trailer won’t be packed every weekend.

There won’t be boots piled by the door, dirty saddle pads in the truck, or a kid yelling, “Mom, have you seen my hat/Helmet?”

And you might actually miss the chaos.

Because somewhere between the early mornings, long drives, dusty arenas, tears, laughter, and late nights… you were watching your baby/adopted baby grow up.

So here’s to the Horse moms/weekend Horse Moms:

The grooms.
The trailer drivers.
The photographers.
The snack holders.
The biggest cheerleaders.
The Life Coach.
The shoulder to cry on.
And the voice from behind the alley saying, "You’ve got this, what are we here for, “to have fun, a clean ride.”.”

They may be the ones in the arena…

but there’s a Horse Mom/weekend Horse mom behind so many of those dreams. ❤️

Congratulations on your clean run today Miss Marit and Mr. Wreckit Ralph!!! So glad Mr. Brody and I could come and watch, video and be your warm up barrels!! 😊 oh ya and scream for you!

You both are going to be amazing at college and we will Miss you untill Thanksgiving break!!!!

What a busy week we have had here at Diamond D Ranch…from doing Hay to having Family come in to driving to Colorado for Travis McConnell and his horse Waylon and Mr. Rip to go to the accredited horse training 4/5 week class,
to driving home from Colorado to going to the IBRA State show….. it’s been go go go…

We are so Thankful here at Diamond D Ranch to be able to help out friends and family as well as continuing our competitive lesson program.

We would like to say Congratulations to our one and only Brody Dehn and his Old Man “Spot”, for Bringing home a “Top Dog” spot for the over all Points for Youth 3-D - taking 4th place for the season and qualifying them for IBRA Nationals. They were very consistent all season as they only were able to run very limited amount.

We would like to say Congratulations to Miss. Paige for Bringing home “The Top Dog” spot for the over all season Champion of the youth 3-D and qualifying them for IBRA Nationals as well. Miss Paige and her horse had ups and downs and went home each week and did the work and came back each show and just kept killing it. congratulations Kiddo, we at Diamond D Ranch are proud of you.

We would like to say Congratulations to Miss Ellye Shultz (Brittany Alvin Schultz) and Mr. Zink for Killing it this season with a late start, qualifying for IBRA Nationals in Open and Youth with very limited shows and just getting to know each other. She ended the season in the Youth 2-D and 3-D, and the Open 3-D and 4-D. At the state shows yesterday they ended the day state show sitting 13th in the in the open 4-D, and sitting 5th in the youth 3-D. They have been putting in the work with some ups and Downs and keeps succeeding all expectations, “what a team”. We can wait for Nationals for you two!!!!

We would also like to say Congratulations to Miss Ava Wakeman (Tammy Wakeman) and AReal Cotton Candee aka:Cinnamon for hitting goals this season that we didn’t know were possible. God watches over us and there are reasons for everything. With Miss Cinnamon having two surgery’s /injuries this year we weren’t sure if Miss Ava and Cinnamon could make it to enough shows to qualify them both to go, but with persistence in a good rehab plan and Miss Ava riding some other horses in the meantime, Miss Ava and Cinnamon did it. The Qualified for Nationals in the Open and Youth division. They also Placed 4th for the day in the Open 4-D at the state show and got awards, and had some tough luck on their youth run for the day. Congratulations Ava and cinnamon and we can’t wait to watch ya at Nationals.

Why I Charge What I Do for Riding Lessons , which should be more!

I charge $65 an hour for a private lesson.

I’ve been told that’s expensive.
I’ve been told it’s too much.
I’ve even been told I must be getting rich.

It’s kind of funny, isn’t it?

The reality is that your lesson starts long before you ever pull into my driveway.

Before every lesson, I water and drag the arena. That means diesel for the tractor, equipment maintenance, replacing drag teeth, and spending time making sure the footing is safe and consistent. None of that is free.

When you come for a lesson, you’re not just paying for one hour.

Many students arrive early to watch me ride, ask questions, and learn while I’m tuning another horse before their lesson even begins. That’s extra coaching I don’t charge for.

If I see one of my students at a high school rodeo or barrel race, I’ll coach them there too. There’s no additional coaching fee.

If you text me late at night because you’re worried about your horse, I’ll answer if I can. I don’t send you an invoice.

Some students haul in multiple horses, spend extra time bathing them afterward, or simply stay and talk horses. I don’t charge for that either.

That $65 doesn’t go straight into my pocket.

It helps cover liability insurance, arena maintenance, fuel, utilities, equipment, and all the behind-the-scenes costs of operating a safe facility where people can come ride and learn.

But more than anything, you’re paying for experience.

You’re paying for the years I’ve spent taking lessons myself, attending clinics, hauling thousands of miles, entering races, learning from my mistakes, and continually investing in becoming a better horseman and coach.

I’ve qualified for Worlds and Nationals. I’m a barrel racer, and when you take a lesson with me, you’re getting one-on-one access to everything I’ve learned along the way.

You wouldn’t expect an attorney, a mechanic, or a doctor to charge based only on the hour they spend with you. You’re paying for the years it took them to become good at what they do.

The same applies here.

You’re not paying for just one hour.

You’re paying for years of experience, individualized coaching, a safe place to learn, and someone who is genuinely invested in helping both you and your horse improve.

When you look at it that way, $65 an hour doesn’t seem nearly as expensive, should be a minimum of $100……
