Every Friday, I look at five numbers.

Not 50.

Not a dashboard full of metrics that look impressive but don't tell me what I need to know.

Just five:

Revenue.
Pipeline.
Cash.
Hiring.
Delivery.

Because the bigger the business gets, the easier it is to mistake complexity for control.

More reports.
More meetings.
More data.

But if you can't quickly tell me how the business is performing, where the next revenue is coming from, what's happening with cash, whether you have the right people, and whether you're actually delivering...

You don't need more information.

You need more clarity.

What are the five numbers you check to know if your business is healthy?

Why Small Businesses Lose Federal Contracts Before They Even Bid

A lot of small businesses think winning a federal contract starts when the RFP is released.

It doesn't.

By then, the companies that have been building relationships, positioning themselves, finding the right teaming partners, and understanding the agency's needs are already ahead.

The mistake I see most often?

Waiting for the opportunity instead of preparing for it.

In federal contracting, the work you do before the solicitation can be just as important as the proposal you submit after it.

I've learned that when the same problems keep coming up, the answer isn't always another meeting, another reminder, or another conversation.

Sometimes, the business needs a better system.

Clearer expectations.
Clearer ownership.
Clearer processes.
Clearer decisions.

Because when everything depends on the CEO stepping in to fix it, you don't have a team that can scale.

The 30-Minute CEO Planning Session That Saves Me 10+ Hours Every Week

I used to think being productive meant getting more done.

Now I know better.

As a CEO, the real challenge isn't finding more things to do.

It's knowing what actually deserves my attention.

Every week, I take 30 minutes to step back and look at the business from a higher level.

I review:

→ Revenue priorities
→ Team priorities
→ The biggest bottleneck
→ What needs my attention
→ What AI can help me simplify or execute

Then I turn that clarity into an action plan and block the time to make it happen.

Those 30 minutes save me from spending the rest of the week reacting to whatever feels urgent.

Because when you don't decide what matters, your calendar will decide for you.

And that's usually where the 10+ hours disappear.

Nobody talks about this part of discipline.

It’s 102° in Sacramento.

I’ve been working all day.

My hair looked amazing this morning.

And honestly…

I didn’t feel like taking this walk.

No one would’ve known if I skipped it.
