First kickflip since I broke myself! 🙌
Last year, for Go Skate Day 2025, I was still newly out of ACL reconstruction surgery. I was still in the six weeks of the brace that kept my leg straight. I got around with crutches and started physical therapy, which took about as much energy as I could muster. I’m still stoked on that crutch flip!
This has been a long tough year of rehabilitation. It was both physically grueling and mentally crippling. The progress was slow, but improvements came.
After the year mark, I’ve been approved to skate for a couple weeks now. I just haven’t had the energy or willpower in me.
But for Go Skate Day 2026 I had to get out on my board. I was determined to land a kickflip. My legs felt like newborn deer’s, wobbly and unsteady. It took a bunch of tries. I’m happy enough with the little tic-tac ride away. It wore me out, but I did it.
What a difference a year can make. Though I’m not where I’d like to be, it’s good to look back and see how far I have come.
Big thanks to all the helpful from the people at American Fork Physical Therapy ❤️
