The 2027 Orthodox Children’s Calendar is going to be about….*drumroll*…. Icons of the Theotokos!! We’ll be talking about a wide variety of icons, what makes them unique, and what we can learn from them about the Theotokos and her Son.
You’ll be able to order a copy as soon as August (so keep an eye out), and every month of the calendar will feature an original watercolor painting of an icon of the Theotokos. This project is particularly sweet for me (Marian), because she is my patron saint! 💙 This particular painting is a painting of a mosaic icon, and painting this was a lengthy process. You can swipe through to see some of the process, and a finished picture is on the last slide.

As always, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for the support that enables us to spend the hundreds of hours it takes to create a calendar like the Orthodox Children’s Calendar. We couldn’t do it without you!

Calling all budding iconographers!! We just added this coloring book to our Shop (find it in the Art Kits + Coloring Books section of our website!). It includes a brief explanation of icons and the colors used in them, hand drawn saints with a description of each and room to practice writing their name, as well as a quiz at the end to see how much you’ve learned! It was created by Kate Syroney who is a trained iconographer. Finding quality resources like this that you can trust have accurate information, and respectful, correct images is SO IMPORTANT because y’all, there are a lot of AI slop “Orthodox” coloring books on Amazon now. It’s important to choose resources actually created by *people* who know what they’re doing, because not only is the AI “icon”-ish art riddled with errors, but we need to support the people who create the art that brings beauty to our churches and homes.
We thought this coloring book would pair perfectly with the St Luke icon kit, where kids can color their own little icon of St Luke and mount it onto a board to be displayed in their room or gifted to a godparent, perhaps. 🥹 And the icon kit + the coloring book is under $25! (In this economy?! A steal!!)
