I took on the challenge of creating an avant-garde look for this first time and I feel like it all just came together! My choice of materials were unconventional- recycled mens pants. I started out with 5 pairs and did not know how I was going to piece them together. In the end, I came up with a checkerboard pattern. The Looking Glass by Lewis Carrol uses the chess game for the structure of the book! Then, I settled on an 1880’s period skirt because that is the timeframe when book was written. The fabulous painting that inspired my look is by Maxwell Miller and is called the « Case of the Curious Oysters » (which I am standing next to). Both the painting and my look are inspired by a poem from Lewis Carrol’s book. I posted the poem below. My look is an avant garde still life dress based on a still life painting!
