Habits, they can make you and they can break you.

Another great quote, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about today.

At Life Hack Tees we have a shirt that says, “If you Always Do what you’ve Always Done, you’ll Always Get what you’ve Always Got.”

At Life Hack Tees, we believe this, thank you Henry Ford…

The saying "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got" means that repeating the same actions, habits, or decisions will inevitably lead to the same results, preventing growth or positive change.

To achieve different results, you must implement different actions, a core concept in personal development and problem-solving. It highlights the importance of breaking routines and stepping out of your comfort zone to find new opportunities and improvements.

Core Meaning & Implications:
• Cause and Effect: It's a straightforward principle of cause and effect – same inputs (actions) yield the same outputs (results).
• Stuck in a Rut: Continuing the old patterns keeps you stuck in a cycle, whether it's a bad situation, unfulfilling job, or lack of progress.
• Need for Change: If you desire something different in your life, whether that be better health, new skills, more success, you must actively do something different.

Examples:
• Health: Eating junk food and never exercising means you'll stay unhealthy.
• Career: Sticking to old, inefficient work methods means your company won't innovate or improve.
• Relationships: Repeating toxic relationship patterns leads to the same painful outcomes

You May Be Whatever?

Ever hear the saying, “You may be whatever you resolve to be?”

The important word here is RESOLVE.

At Life Hack Tees, we love Jim Rohn and it’s been said that Jim heard one the best definition of “resolve’ from a 12 year old girl.

It went like this. She said, “I think resolve means promising yourself, you will never give up.”

At Life Hack Tees, we also believe in sharing our knowledge.

"You may be whatever you resolve to be" is an inspirational maxim often attributed to Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, who kept it in his personal notebook as a guiding principle, though he found it from another source. The phrase is famously inscribed at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and encourages self-determination, highlighting that one's character and achievements stem from focused determination, but its association with Jackson has become complex due to his role in the Confederacy and slavery.

Origin & Meaning
• Source: Jackson discovered the quote in an 1851 book by Reverend Joel Hawes and added it to his personal collection of maxims.
• Inspiration: It reflects a belief in personal agency, suggesting that through strong will and clear goals, individuals can achieve anything they set their minds to.
• VMI Connection: The phrase was added to the Jackson Arch at VMI in the 1950s, becoming a significant motto for cadets, but VMI later voted to contextualize the plaque by adding the original source and acknowledging Jackson's complex legacy.

Context & Controversy
• Stonewall Jackson: As a deeply religious man and military leader, Jackson lived by such principles, but his resolve was also tied to defending a slaveholding South, making the quote's application controversial.

"Where attention goes, energy flows, and results show" is a popular motivational principle, linked to figures like T. Harv Eker, meaning that focusing your mental and physical energy on something makes it more likely to succeed; it's tied to the Reticular Activating System (RAS) in the brain, which highlights things you pay attention to, creating a feedback loop where focused intent leads to action and outcomes, whether positive (growth, opportunity) or negative (fear, scarcity).

What it means:
• Attention as a Filter: Your brain's RAS filters information, making you notice what you're already focused on.
• Energy Follows Focus: Whatever you constantly think about, you invest your mental and emotional energy into.
• Results Manifest: This concentrated energy then drives actions, leading to tangible results that align with what you’re focused on.

How to use it:
• Choose Wisely: Be intentional about what you give your attention to (growth, peace, goals) rather than distractions or negativity.
• Control Your Mindset: See challenges as solvable problems, not stressors, by focusing on solutions.
• Take Action: Set clear, visible goals and take small, consistent steps to build momentum. This one is a must… One step at a time.
• Practice Mindfulness: Consciously direct your focus to what you want, and release what drains your energy.

Don’t Wish It Was Easier…

We have a saying in our house, “Everything is hard until it’s easy.”

Well, that’s kind of the counterpoint of the saying, “Don’t Wish It Was Easier, Wish You Were Better.”

We believe at Life Hack Tees, that personal development in today’s world is needed.

We also believe in sharing our knowledge.

"Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better" means instead of wanting external circumstances to change, focus on improving yourself (skills, wisdom, strength) to better handle life's inevitable challenges and problems.

This will set you up for turning obstacles into opportunities for personal growth.

This is about shifting from a victim mentality to an empowered one.

To help you develop resilience and capability to conquer difficulties rather than wishing for their absence.

Core meaning:
• Focus on internal growth: The quote, popularized by Jim Rohn, suggests that you can't control life's difficulties, but you can control your response and ability to overcome them.
• Build skills and wisdom: Instead of wishing for fewer problems, wish for more skills, knowledge, and wisdom to handle them effectively.
• Embrace challenges: Difficult times are opportunities to become stronger, wiser, and more capable, turning bad situations into good outcomes.

In practice:
• When facing conflict, you'll learn negotiation skills rather than just wishing the person would change, notes this blog post.
• When a task is hard, you'll prepare and find the strength to do the work, rather than complaining or giving up, according to this LinkedIn article.

’tWishItWasEasier

Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills.

How You Do Anything

You may have heard and it’s true for the most part, “how you do anything is how you do everything.”

They say good habits are the stepping stones to a good life...

I know that changing a habit can be hard. And creating sustaining habits can be even harder.

"How you do one thing is how you do everything" means your approach, habits, and level of care in small tasks reflect your character and will show up in larger endeavors, suggesting consistency in discipline, integrity, and striving for excellence across all areas of life, from making your bed to managing a career.

While it's a powerful principle for building strong character and habits, some note that context matters, and people can focus intensely on some areas while being average in others.

Core Meaning
• Consistency:
Your attitude towards minor tasks (like tidying up) often mirrors how you handle major responsibilities, indicating a consistent mindset.

• Discipline & Integrity:
Small actions build a foundation for your overall integrity and self-discipline, influencing bigger goals.

• Excellence:
It's a reminder to strive for quality in everything, not just the important-seeming things, because small details build your reputation and work ethic.

Examples
• A messy desk might signal a disorganized approach to digital communication or tasks.
• Consistently showing up on time or keeping small promises builds reliability.

Origin
• The exact origin is unclear, but it's attributed to various trainers, authors, and thinkers, with roots in concepts of personal integrity and habits.

A Man Is What He Thinks.

Quick Question, “What do you spend your time thinking about?

Well, not to get too personal here but it’s an important question.

I am here to tell you that what you focus on, what you think about, affects you and the life you lead.

That said, I hope the below helps.

The phrase "a man is what he thinks" means your thoughts fundamentally shape your character, actions, and reality, a concept echoed by Ralph Waldo Emerson

("A man is what he thinks about all day long") and the Bible (Proverbs 23:7) ("As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”).

It suggests that by cultivating positive, focused thoughts, individuals can create a better self and life, while negative thinking leads to undesirable outcomes, making your inner world your outer reality.

Key interpretations:

- Character Formation: Your constant thoughts accumulate to form your personality and identity.

- Shaping Reality: What you focus on (good or bad) influences your circumstances and achievements.

- Power of Mindset: This idea encourages mindfulness, prompting people to control their thought life to achieve desired outcomes.

Famous proponents:

- James Allen: In his book As a Man Thinketh, he stated, "A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts".

- Mahatma Gandhi: Echoed this, saying, "A man is but the product of his own thoughts".

How it works:
Thoughts -> Actions -> Results: Positive, focused thoughts lead to positive actions and results; whereas negative thoughts lead to negative ones.

A Man Is What He Thinks About All Day Long.

Trust Yourself.

What does that even mean?

Well, when we started Life Hack Tees my daughter and co-founder told me that she wanted to have the quote Trust Yourself.

I still have the paper plate where I wrote it down.

At the time she said it meant, “Be more confident in yourself and trust yourself. That everything you need is within you.”

She was only 12 at the time…

That said, I hope the below helps.

“Trust Yourself” means having faith in your inner wisdom, judgment, and ability to handle challenges, even when uncertain; It’s about relying on your intuition, accepting imperfections, being resilient, and believing you have the strength to navigate life's ups and downs, rather than seeking external validation or fearing failure.

Key aspects of trusting yourself:

- Inner Wisdom: Listening to your intuition or gut feelings about what's right for you.

- Resilience: Believing you can overcome obstacles, drawing strength from past successes.

- Confidence in Decisions: Having faith in your choices without constant second-guessing.

- Acceptance: Being kind to yourself, forgiving mistakes, and accepting imperfections.

- Self-Reliance: Knowing you possess the inner resources to manage life's unpredictability.

- Courage: Being willing to take risks and try new things, even with the possibility of failure.

In practice:

- It means trusting your experiences and opinions are valid, even if different from others'.

- It's about acting on what you know is right for you, rather than being paralyzed by fear.

- It involves setting and enforcing personal boundaries, as noted by Brené Brown, and being reliable to yourself by following through on your promises.

Ever climb a mountain?

Did you know today was International Mountain Day?

Yeah, me either...

But I do know about working harder on myself.

I have spent the past decade and a half doing so.

If I wanted to climb a mountain, I know I could, with persistence and discipline.

Today I’d like to share something about working harder on yourself.

That said, I hope the below helps…

"Work harder on yourself than you do on your job" means prioritizing personal development (mind, skills, habits, mindset) for greater long-term success, resilience, and fulfillment, not just earning a living but building your core value so you can create more opportunities and wealth, as you are the most valuable asset in your own life. It's about becoming a better you through continuous learning, self-improvement, and building inner confidence, making you more adaptable to life's changes.

Key aspects of working harder on yourself:

- Mindset & Psychology: Focus on your inner world, thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs, recognizing that success starts from within.

- Continuous Learning: Read books, attend seminars, find mentors, and acquire new knowledge and skills (technical or soft skills).

- Skill Development: Improve your abilities in your profession and other areas, like finances, health, or leadership.

- Habit & Lifestyle Changes: Develop positive habits like exercise, healthy eating, and managing your time and energy.

- Self-Examination: Honestly assess your strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

- Emotional Resilience: Build the mental toughness to handle challenges and change.

Why it's important:

- Job security vs. Self-worth: Jobs and markets change, but your personal growth makes you more valuable and adaptable, regardless of external shifts.

- From surviving to thriving: Working on your job pays the bills (makes a living); working on yourself can lead to greater fortune and fulfillment (makes a fortune).

- Empowerment: You become the "hero" of your own story, taking control of your future rather than relying solely on employers or circumstances.

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.
