WEAR YOUR STORY.
WE ARE THE STORY.

This week’s Wear Your Story spotlight celebrates a powerful mother–daughter tandem — Gigi and her daughter D’Annalyn — and the Filipino values they share across generations.

For Gigi, Filipino culture began at home, through her mother from Ilocos Norte.

“No matter what state or country you live in, you are never alone. Filipino community stays connected.”

Family, hospitality, and strong community bonds are values she lives by — and proudly passes on to her daughter.

For D’Annalyn, a junior in the Running Start program earning her AA in Nursing, Filipino culture was experienced through her mom’s family and community.

“I see how Filipinos support one another. That connection is why I’m proud to call myself Filipino.”

For Gigi, representation is deeply personal:

“I’m proud to be a Pinay and to represent my mom’s country. My daughter isn’t fully Filipino, but she’s learned so much through her grandma and the Filipino community.”

Together, their story reminds us that Filipino identity isn’t just inherited — it’s shared, taught, and strengthened through generations.

WEAR YOUR STORY. WE ARE THE STORY.

This week’s Wear Your Story spotlight features Debbie, business owner of Tagpuan Asian Variety Store, whose Filipino identity isn’t something she discovered later in life — it’s who she has always been.

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Filipino culture shaped Debbie from the very beginning.

“Filipino culture is not something I learned later in life — it shaped my childhood, my values, my traditions, and the way I see the world. From everyday family life to celebrations, food, faith, and community, it has always been my foundation.”

What keeps her most connected are the values that never fade, no matter where life takes her.

“Strong family values — especially deep respect for elders and tight family bonds — are what make me feel most connected to Filipino culture. Family always comes first.”

Christmas, in particular, holds a special place in her heart.

“Christmas in the Philippines is more than a holiday. It’s a season of togetherness, generosity, faith, and joy — where families come together and create lasting memories.”

In her everyday life, Debbie lives by the values she was raised with.

“Resilience is something I carry every day. Life isn’t always easy, but being Filipino taught me how to stay strong, keep going, and find hope even in difficult moments. I also carry deep respect for my parents and elders — their sacrifices and wisdom guide how I live and lead.”

The Filipinos in her life taught her how to show up with sincerity.

“I was raised to always do my best — in work, relationships, and in helping others. Filipinos taught me the importance of hard work, humility, and lifting people up whenever I can.”

For Debbie, representation is deeply personal.

“Wearing Filipino-inspired merch is more than fashion — it’s identity. It represents where I grew up and honors my roots. This is me. This is who I am. Every piece reflects my journey, my heritage, and the values I carry wherever I go.”

Debbie’s story reminds us that culture lives on through the way we lead, the businesses we build, and the pride we carry forward.

WEAR YOUR STORY. WE ARE THE STORY.

This week’s Wear Your Story spotlight features Anthony, a Future Educator whose connection to Filipino culture has evolved from childhood, to community, to purpose.

Anthony grew up in a Filipino household, but like many Fil-Am kids, his early experiences were light — lumpia at family gatherings and the occasional national holiday (boxing matches included).
It wasn’t until late high school and college that he felt the pull to rediscover his heritage.

“I started seeking out opportunities to learn more, which led me to join the Filipino American Student Association at UW.”

Through that journey, one thing stood out above all:
community.

“The community aspect is what I feel most connected to — and it’s the value I carry into my everyday life. Filipinos are so welcoming, and I try to model all my interactions after that, especially since I’ve always worked in people-facing roles.”

For Anthony, the influence of Filipinos in his life is a living, breathing support system that has shaped who he is:

“The sense of community is strong among Filipinos. I’m still close with the people I grew up with and the ones I met at my first FASA meeting more than 10 years ago. We always show up for our people, in celebration and in hardship.”

As he prepares for a career in education, Anthony brings this Filipino value of showing up into the way he hopes to teach, lead, and make space for others.

And when it comes to representation, he believes it matters:

“Our culture is beautiful. Wearing Filipino-inspired merch — from traditional clothing to modern brands like PMX — gives us an outlet to display our culture proudly.”

Anthony’s story reminds us that identity isn’t static — it grows with us.
It deepens when we find community, when we choose to reconnect, and when we learn to show up for others the way our culture taught us to.

Not Everything Cultural Needs to Be Novelty

In a world that moves fast, culture often gets turned into something loud, temporary, or eye-catching for the moment. But that’s never been how culture truly lives.

For us at PMX, culture isn’t a costume. It’s something worn into everyday life—quietly, consistently, and with intention.

That’s why we don’t design for novelty. We design pieces meant to last beyond trends, seasons, or moments. From fabric choice to finish, every detail is considered because when something represents identity, quality matters.

Some things aren’t meant to shout.
Some things are meant to stay.

That’s the space PMX chooses to hold.
