Hey there, fellow artists and creatives!

I'm thrilled to share some incredible news with you. I'm Deassie Washington, CEO of DeassieIII, and I've recently been awarded a $500 Get Ready Grant from the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge in late April 2023. This grant is not just a recognition of my work but a powerful reminder of the importance of safeguarding our artistic crafts and careers.

Understanding Get Ready Grants

Before I dive into how I plan to use this grant, let me tell you a bit about what Get Ready Grants are all about. These grants are designed to encourage artists like me to protect our studios, secure our careers, and take measures to prepare for the unexpected. In a world filled with uncertainties, being prepared is an absolute must.

Investing in the Future of My Art

Now, let's talk about how I'm going to make the most of this incredible opportunity. I'm not taking this grant lightly; I'm investing in the future of my art and my career.

1. Crafting a Stunning Digital Portfolio

With $150 from the grant, I had the privilege of working closely with a talented website designer right here on this platform. Together, we created a visually captivating and user-friendly website that perfectly aligns with my branding goals. This digital portfolio beautifully showcases my creations, from wallets and phone cases to belts, handbags, and various leather goods.

Imagine having a platform that not only supports my career aspirations but also attracts potential clients from around the world.

2. Expanding My Reach with an Online Store

But I didn't stop at a website. I allocated $350 from the grant to secure a three-year subscription to this very GoDaddy online store. This strategic move has allowed me to broaden my sales channels, making my exquisite leather crafts accessible to a wider audience.

The online store doesn't just display my creations; it provides a secure platform for processing transactions and efficiently managing customer orders. It's a game-changer, especially during times when physical galleries or craft shows may have to close unexpectedly due to unforeseen disasters.

What I've Learned Through This Process

This journey has taught me invaluable lessons about the importance of being proactive and resilient as an artist. I've learned that investing in the right tools and platforms, like the website and online store I've created, not only showcases my art but also safeguards my career against the unpredictable. Through this process, I've discovered the power of preparedness and how it can open doors to endless possibilities in the world of art.

Take Action and Protect Your Craft

My journey is a testament to what can be achieved when you take action to safeguard your artistic craft and career. If my story inspires you to take the next step, I encourage you to consider applying for a Get Ready Grant yourself. The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is here to support artists like you in preparing for whatever challenges may come your way.

This project is supported by CERF+ and the Mellon Foundation through a grant administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
