Cissy Houston,
Whitney’s mother, passes away at 91.

Houston was the mother of singer and actress Whitney Houston, the aunt of singers Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick, and a cousin of opera singer Leontyne Price. Houston was the grandmother of Whitney Houston's only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Cissy Houston died in New Jersey on October 7, 2024, at the age of 91. She had been in hospice care for Alzheimer's disease.

We say farewell to a tireless voice of the Houston community. Over the years, Sheila Jackson-Lee served in local government and in the U.S. House of Representatives, but she always took time to be among the people. We met her at many of our shows over the years and she was always gracious and kind. Our prayers go out to her family, friends, and constituents.
