𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐁𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐌𝐀𝐆

BullMag rejects WATL’s April 10 and May 15 statements, including the allegations, conclusions, and disciplinary measures announced in them. WATL has tried to frame this as a neutral disciplinary matter. It is not.

WATL is a private organization using internal authority to restrict a company operating in the same commercial ecosystem. The investigation was directed by Mario Zelaya, WATL’s Commissioner, while WATL controls sponsorship access, vendor access, product approvals, promotional platforms, and sanctioned events. That is a conflict.

WATL’s own Code of Conduct requires disciplinary matters to be reviewed by individuals with no conflict of interest. Yet WATL has not identified the committee members, disclosed what conflicts were reviewed, or clarified Mario Zelaya’s role in directing, influencing, approving, or finalizing the outcome. Instead, WATL announced conclusions without providing the basic information needed to determine whether the process was neutral, independent, or fair.

WATL also demanded broad access to BullMag’s confidential business records, customer data, order history, refund records, fulfillment records, sponsorship records, sales-channel information, operational capacity information, and Shopify access. BullMag refused to hand that information to an organization operating in the same commercial ecosystem. That refusal was proper. Protecting customer information and proprietary business records is not obstruction.

WATL also claims it has “continued to receive reports” regarding outstanding orders and money owed. It gives no explanation of whether those reports are new, duplicate, resolved, anonymous, or repeated submissions involving the same matters. That language is vague enough to imply scale without establishing it.

WATL has now encouraged reports to law enforcement and consumer agencies while acknowledging it has made no determination of criminal conduct. That distinction matters. WATL cannot use the weight of a criminal implication while avoiding responsibility for the implication itself.

The proposed BullMag axe registration program and future restrictions are equally indefensible. WATL has not alleged that BullMag axes are unsafe, noncompliant, or competitively improper. If the equipment is not the issue, then restricting the equipment is not athlete protection. It is market control.

WATL is using this dispute as an opportunity to limit BullMag’s presence inside its ecosystem while dressing that restriction up as community protection. A serious governing body does not use product approvals as a weapon, hide the identity and conflicts of its decision-makers, or demand transparency from others while refusing to provide it itself.

A fair organization does not demand confidential records from a business while refusing to disclose its own conflicts. A responsible organization does not invite criminal suspicion while admitting it made no criminal finding. And a trustworthy organization does not use equipment approvals and platform control as pressure tools against a brand it does not control.

WATL can publish accusations. It cannot manufacture credibility. Evidence, transparency, and a fair process are required. WATL has provided none.

To our customers and supporters: WATL does not decide BullMag’s future. Our customers, our products, and the market will. We will continue to build and innovate.

Thank you,
John Kautter

𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗠𝗮𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:

I am aware of the statement issued by World Axe Throwing League, and I strongly disagree with both its tone and its characterization of BullMag.

BullMag has fulfilled well over a thousand orders, and I personally shipped over a hundred orders in the last month alone. The overwhelming majority of our customers have received their products and continue to support our brand, our work, and what we have built in this sport. To suggest that BullMag has broadly harmed this community is, in my view, a serious exaggeration and does not reflect reality.

There are a small number of orders that have experienced delays or required additional follow-up. In a couple of cases, orders slipped through the cracks, and I admit that is unacceptable. There are also sheath orders, which take substantially longer because they are cut, assembled, and sewn by hand. That process is labor-intensive by nature. At the same time, waiting over a year for any order is unacceptable, and I understand that.

What is being presented publicly, however, is the false impression that this is BullMag’s regular business practice. It is not. These situations involve a small number of orders and do not reflect the reality of the overwhelming majority of BullMag orders that have been fulfilled.

Customer support is not an afterthought for BullMag. It is one of my top priorities, which is exactly why the BullMag website was recently redesigned with that purpose in mind. The updated site was built to improve communication, give customers better visibility into their orders, and make support more accessible and more responsive. My priority is not only resolving the remaining issues, but continuing to strengthen the customer experience going forward.

I also want to address one specific allegation directly. No customer has ever been required to remove a public post, comment, or review in order to receive a product, refund, or resolution from BullMag. In some cases, I have asked that posts be updated or removed after a matter was being addressed, but I have never made removal a condition of resolving a customer issue.

Public discussion should be grounded in facts and direct customer experience, not speculation, secondhand claims, or online pile-ons.

WATL is entitled to conduct its own review, and I am confident that any fair, fact-based review will show that the volume of unresolved issues is small compared to the online speculation surrounding BullMag. I will respond through the appropriate channels.

My focus right now is simple: resolve the remaining outstanding issues, support my customers, and keep BullMag moving forward.

I am proud of what I have built, proud of the customers who support BullMag, and confident that the truth is far stronger than a one-sided narrative.

BullMag Founder,
John Kautter

If you’ve spent any real time in the axe community, you know the kind of man he was. Steady. Encouraging. Competitive. The type who would shake your hand after a match and mean it. The type who wanted to see you throw your best — even if it meant beating him.

He represented what this sport is supposed to be about: discipline, camaraderie, respect, and heart.

He was also a strong supporter of BullMag and genuinely loved the gear — but more than anything, he loved the people behind the line. Over the last year, we spent many hours on the phone talking axes, leagues, tournaments, and life. He cared about the details. He cared about getting better. He cared about this community.

Those conversations meant more than he probably knew.

ForLonnie, we compete.
ForLonnie, we remember.
ForLonnie, we keep throwing.

Rest easy, my friend. Your legacy lives on every time an axe hits the board. 🪓
