I'm so happy to have my friend Mallory join Facebook with her beautiful and important mission of helping people build their village. I'd love if you all would follow her page and give her some encouragement as she starts sharing her message here.

She shares very practical ways that families can become "villagers" to others, which is an essential part of having a village yourself. She covers every scenario and objection and is such a beautiful example of the kind of sacrifice it takes to build something meaningful. And she is a beautiful soul on top of that ❤️

Please consider following her and encouraging her work. Tell her Ani (aka Mrs. Clothier) sent you 😁❤️

hi hello, welcome!!!

My name is Mallory 🙂

I’m a wife, a homeschool mom of four, a regular hostess, and the woman behind The Village Calling.

I’m here because I believe loneliness is not just an emotional problem. It is a formation problem, a household problem, and a cultural problem. And it will not be solved by more online encouragement, more aesthetic homemaking, or waiting around for the perfect people to find you.

I believe village culture has to be rebuilt on purpose. Not in theory or nostalgia. Not by talking endlessly about how hard modern life is.

But rather, in kitchens, around tables. Through text messages sent first. And meals delivered. Through opening doors and children being welcomed into the work of community.

Through homes becoming more interruptible. Through women becoming the kind of people who do not just want a village, but are willing to become villagers.

I’ve had to build my village through brain tumors, family deaths, my parents moving across the world, and while in the thick of the little years. And over the last decade I’ve gotten pretty good at the mindsets, systems, and life habits that create commmunity without causing burn out.

Around here, I talk about hospitality, motherhood, friendship, homemaking, capacity, marriage, legacy, and the small ordinary decisions that make a life strong enough to hold other people.

I am not here to help you curate a prettier life.

I am here to help you build a more faithful one.

Welcome to The Village Calling 🏘️ 🫶🏼

I managed to do a good amount of sewing this week which was really encouraging. I was always used to being interrupted regularly while I work, but balancing taking care of a newborn while I sew is on a whole other level. I think it takes me 3 hours to get 1 hour of work done 😆

But we're adjusting as a family and we'll figure out the right rhythm.

Since I'm now up and about a little more, and am focused on the sewing work, I am not spending as much time online as I was when I was freshly post partum and resting a lot. This means that now more than ever I'm really not able to keep up with all the messages and comments. I usually try to read comments on the most recent video every day and chat with you all a little bit there. Everything else gets buried in the notifications and is easy to miss.

I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to comment or write to us. I wish I could respond to everyone and reciprocate. But I'm just one person and my capacity is so limited. Maybe you all could try to respond to each other for me, that way everyone will feel heard and can have some nice conversation here.

If you have questions/comments/suggestions about our shop specifically, please send us an email. My husband checks emails regularly and asks my input when he replies. This is the best way to get our attention for something important that might need a response.

Our email is: [email protected]

Thank you all for being here and continuing to support our work ❤️

A lot of people also said denim, which I will keep an eye out for too.

I'd love to have some popular/neutral colors and prints that we sew regularly and keep in stock in the shop, and we'll rotate the brighter colors and less common prints.

Let me know what basic colors you'd like to see so that we can consider your preferences as we're planning our future stocking ❤️

If you could only have one skirt to wear for the rest of your life, what color would you want it to be to go best with the rest of your wardrobe?

Sharing a personal reflection on fathers, and if you also have a complicated relationship with yours, or if you're also grieving on this day, I'm here in solidarity with you and hope you can find some peace in it ❤️‍🩹
