My heart is broken 🥲
Unsure if those of you from Sumter and surrounding areas are aware that long time physician Dr. Samuel J. Corbin and Air Force veteran passed away. His home going services are today. I hope that his family doesn’t mind me making this post. I couldn’t help it because Dr. Corbin and his staff meant so much to me. I noticed that only I and one other person has signed his public tribute wall at http:www.bullockfuneralhome.com, and I thought to myself, this cannot be right? We couldn’t have been the only ones touched by this man during his military service and medical career. I recall that Dr. Corbin’s office used to be packed with patients and I loved that hometown approach to care that he provided. He always made me feel like family and that I mattered. If you feel the same way please visit his tribute page and pay your respects.
I’d like to get personal for a moment and maybe then you will understand my respect and appreciation for Dr. Corbin. As some of you may recall from my posts, I am a survivor of officer-on-officer s*xual assault perpetrated by my Jeffrey Epstein, your sheriff Anthony Dennis. In 2005, when the s*xual assaults, harassment, bullying and retaliation were particularly brutal, I visited Dr. Corbin’s office and I disclosed to him. He had been my longtime care provider. Dr. Corbin was the first person that I disclosed to because I felt like he and his office was a safe environment. Also I was in such a deep state of despair because of all the abuse that I could no longer contain it. Although Dr. Corbin appeared stunned by my disclosure, through my tears I recall Dr. Corbin looking at me with compassion and understanding. Attached is a screenshot of the actual office notes that he wrote pertaining to my disclosure. At the time my last name was Bradley. He noted that my symptoms were due to “ conflict with members of this department.” The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office where I served honorably as a deputy and criminal investigator for nearly twenty five years before being unlawfully terminated for breaking my silence. For the record, I told Dr. Corbin that the “member” of the department was your sheriff Anthony Dennis whom had r***d me and was coming back for more I assume as a reward to him for signing off on my promotion. He also placed me on a cocktail of medication to help me cope with my anxiety, depression and insomnia brought on by the s*xual assault, bullying and retaliation like several other medical providers in and out of state of South Carolina would eventually do. Today the diagnosis is called PTSD. Additionally he placed me on a two week medical leave and did so a few more times during that turbulent year. Even with this information and my disclosure, that predator remains in office. 🤬 I guess what they say is true…power has its privileges. In this case, it’s a get out of jail free card.
Additionally, I would be remiss if I do not recognize his loving widow; Mrs. Arlene Nelson Goodwin Corbin as she also played an integral role in my survivor journey. In addition to working beside her husband in his practice, when I found the courage to report your sheriff, Anthony Dennis to the authorities, I knew that my medical records would be important to corroborating my truth. Although Dr. Corbin’s practice had been closed for many years and his wife was up in age, she agreed to go to their storage unit and search for my medical records. She told me that it wouldn’t be an easy task but she delivered. I flew in from California and we met at Baker’s Sweets on Alice Drive for the exchange.
In closing, I don’t know if I ever appropriately thanked Dr. Corbin for his compassionate care in reference to my disclosure and for making me feel that I mattered all those years ago… but I’d like to think that in that moment he knew it and that he was proud of me for having the courage to break my silence. As the family prepares for his home going services I hope that my fond memories of his compassionate care during some of the darkest days of my life will serve as a testimony to his selfless service and further that it brings a small semblance of joy during this difficult time. I love you Dr. Corbin. ♥️
