Two flags 🇻🇮🇵🇷, connected communities, and Caribbean pride.

Observed October 12, 2026, Virgin Islands 🇻🇮 & Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Friendship Day celebrates 62 years of family, culture, and connection.

Established in 1964 through legislation during Governor Ralph M. Paiewonsky’s administration, the holiday replaced the territory’s Columbus Day observance with a celebration of the historic bonds between Virgin Islanders and Puerto Ricans.

Proppah Tingz honors those connections through designs that let you represent your roots with pride.

Reppin’ Dominica to the fullest! 🇩🇲

Today we celebrate Dominica’s flag and the story it carries. Designed by Dominican artist and playwright Alwin Bully in 1978 as the country prepared for independence, the flag was first flown on November 3, 1978, when Dominica gained independence.

Its ten stars represent the ten parishes, while its colors reflect the island’s forests, sunshine, Indigenous and African heritage, fertile soil, and clear rivers.

The Sisserou parrot, also called the Imperial Amazon, is especially precious because it lives naturally only in Dominica. Known as “The Pride of Dominica,” this critically endangered bird calls the island’s mountain forests home. Its place on the flag celebrates our unique natural heritage and reminds us to protect it for future generations.

Fun fact: Dominica is one of the few national flags in the world that feature purple, thanks to the Sisserou’s beautiful plumage! 💜

Celebrating Emancipation Day Across the Caribbean

Today, we honor the courage, resilience, and enduring legacy of the ancestors whose fight for freedom helped shape the Caribbean.

The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 took effect on August 1, 1834, legally abolishing slavery across most of the British Empire. While many formerly enslaved people were forced into the unjust Apprenticeship System until full emancipation on August 1, 1838, communities across the Caribbean continue to commemorate this historic milestone in different ways and on different dates.

Today we recognize all Caribbean nations and territories that observe Emancipation Day:

* August 1: 🇧🇧 Barbados, 🇧🇿 Belize, 🇬🇩 Grenada, 🇬🇾 Guyana, 🇯🇲 Jamaica, 🇱🇨 Saint Lucia, 🇻🇨 Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, 🇹🇹 Trinidad & Tobago, and 🇹🇨 Turks & Caicos Islands.
* First Monday in August: 🇦🇮 Anguilla, 🇦🇬 Antigua & Barbuda, 🇧🇸 The Bahamas, 🇻🇬 British Virgin Islands, 🇩🇲 Dominica, 🇰🇳 Saint Kitts & Nevis, and 🇲🇸 Montserrat.

Though the dates of observance vary, the purpose remains the same: to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom, preserve our shared history, celebrate Caribbean heritage, and inspire future generations.

REMEMBER. HONOR. CELEBRATE. INSPIRE.

On July 10, 1973, The Bahamas proudly became an independent nation, marking the beginning of its journey as a sovereign country. This month, we celebrate the nation’s rich heritage, resilient people, and vibrant culture.

Featured are the historic Hog Island Lighthouse (built in 1817), which has guided ships into Nassau Harbour for more than two centuries, the iconic Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, a symbol of modern Bahamian tourism, and the colorful tradition of Junkanoo.

With origins in the 18th century, Junkanoo began during slavery when enslaved Africans in The Bahamas celebrated their Christmas holidays with music, dance, and handcrafted costumes. Today, it remains the nation’s most iconic cultural festival, honoring African heritage and Bahamian identity.
