Ms. Marsha has been a part of Willow and Oak from the very beginning. In fact, without her selfless sacrifice and offer to put her original retirement plans on hold for about six months, we wouldn’t exist at all. As we made plans to take over Mary’s Little Lambs, Ms. Marsha (and Ms. Nat!) were there everyday, holding things down and doing the best they could with limited staff and resources until the state approved the transfer of ownership. And then, she put off retirement once more and stayed with us, offering a sense of continuity and familiarity to families in a time of transition and change. Having already established a sense of trust with the families, she was a voice of encouragement as I worked to earn their trust, too.

In her time in childcare, she’s served in every role there is. From teaching, to changing diapers, cleaning the building, and working the kitchen, there’s nothing Ms. Marsha hasn’t done and done well.

We’ll miss her most, though, for the things she did that weren’t in her job description. The kind of advice that only someone who has her kind of experience can give. The offering of perspectives kindly, but with a bit of tough love when needed. The hugs on hard days. Loving my own children (and all of yours!) as if they were her grandkids. She has been a steady presence that I have counted on, knowing that with her help, things would always be ok.

I’m very sad to see her go, but she has truly earned this next chapter. I sincerely hope it’s filled with love, time with her favorite people, and lots of time on her swing with her favorite drink.

Ms. Marsha - Willow and Oak just won’t be the same without you there each morning. We love you lots, and wish you the very best!
