Don’t just know your history; wear it! 💫

Did you know Friday is Juneteenth? A combination of “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth recognizes the day, on June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas were informed of their freedom—two and a half years after President Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Also called “Freedom Day” or “Emancipation Day,” Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States.

Know Your History’s Juneteenth collection honors a hard-won fight for freedom and allows you to share the history of this special day with anyone you meet. We’ll be set up this Saturday, June 20 at Hillcrest Community Center and Park for the annual Topeka Family and Friends Juneteenth Celebration , featuring activities all day from noon to 10 pm! Come see us!
