A little vulnerable post 🛎️🤍
Merle Norman in Vivian, Louisiana has been part of this town since June 15, 1985.
To most people, it’s “Merle Norman.”
To our family, it’s always just been “the shop.”
If you grew up around here, there’s a good chance you know my mom, Patricia. And if you know her… you know she’s basically part hummingbird, part squirrel 🐿️😂
Always moving. Always onto the next thing. Running from one responsibility to another carrying ribbon, paperwork, inventory, dog food, & probably a half finished thought all at the same time.
Truthfully, life gets busy. Somewhere along the way, the shop didn’t get the attention it deserved for a season.
Earlier this year, after surgery slowed me down a little, I started helping more behind the scenes with trade shows, organization, inventory, marketing, & dreaming about what this little place could become again.
Since then, we’ve been slowly pouring love back into it.
Deep cleaning. Reorganizing. Pressure washing years away. Repainting. New flooring (coming soon). Lots of coffee. Lots of “wait… I have an idea” moments 😂
One of our happiest little moments lately was adding ✨Jordan✨ to our team because honestly… every small town shop eventually turns into a cast of characters.
At this point, we’re less of a business and more of a tiny emotionally supportive wildlife preserve 🫶🏼
🐿️ Patricia, is our hummingbird squirrel.
Always moving, always busy, & onto the next thing. Sometimes people think they know her, but truthfully she just has 47 tabs open in her brain at all times & is probably trying to feed dogs, answer phones, drive a school bus, restyle a clothing rack, & prepare for a trade show before lunch.
🦌 Jordan is our deer.
Sweet spirit. Gentle energy. The kind of person who makes customers feel welcome the second they walk through the door.
🦊 Aunt Linda is our fox.
Creative, funny, uplifting, and somehow always convincing somebody to eat dessert they absolutely did not plan on ordering.
🐈⬛ Deidra, our hairdresser, is the black cat energy of the group.
Cool without trying. Quietly observant. A little mysterious. Probably already read your personality within 14 seconds of meeting you ✨ the tiny star tats may give it away…
🐑 And then there’s Mary… our little lamb. Patricia & Linda lovingly help care for Mary. Mary sees the world a little differently than most people, & honestly that may be why she loves so purely. She never meets a stranger and somehow makes everybody feel like they’ve known her forever. If you stop by the shop there’s a very high chance Mary is going to speak to you, love on you, and accidentally become your new best friend 🤍
🐺 Then there’s me, Amy somewhere in the middle trying to keep the whole little pack moving forward while juggling real estate, coaching, recovery work, business ideas, marketing, & somehow still becoming emotionally attached to every candle, sweatshirt, & seasonal display we bring into the building 😂
Truthfully though… we really do love this little shop.
It’s imperfect. It’s evolving. It’s full of personality. But there’s still a lot of life left in these walls, and we’re excited about where things are headed.
