Begonia 'Escargot' is one of the most recognizable rex begonias, famous for its dramatic spiral leaf pattern that resembles a snail shell (hence the name Escargot).
Light:
Bright, indirect light
Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves
Too little light may reduce leaf coloration
Water:
Keep soil lightly moist but not soggy
Allow the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings
Avoid letting water sit on the leaves
Humidity:
Prefers 50–70% humidity
Benefits from a humidifier or display cabinet
Good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues
Temperature:
Ideal: 65–80°F (18–27°C)
Protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C)
Soil:
Well-draining mix with good aeration
A blend of peat or coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark works well
Common Problems
Crispy edges: Low humidity or underwatering
Leaf rot: Overwatering or poor airflow
Faded colors: Insufficient light
Powdery mildew: High humidity combined with stagnant air
