Today we’d be in the midst of enjoying x .and.46 Sari-Sari Pop-Up Market celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month but due to an unpredictable forecast, the event has been postponed to June 28th.

This annual family-friendly event brings AANHPI artists, makers, musicians, small business owners and organizations together, amplifying the Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander cross-cultural richness of the DMV. For many of us, this event makes our month and is one of our best days of the year, as it puts us front and center to connect with the communities we serve.

We wanted to take a moment to look back at past celebrations and give a shouts out to everyone a part of this year’s lineup. Give them a follow, shop with them online, stream their music, visit their restaurant, donate to their non-profit, subscribe to their email newsletters and save the date: June 28th, 2026 we celebrate!

Moments of joy at the in celebration of , as captured by us on May 16, 2026.

The Chocolate City Experience, founded by , is a cultural reclamation—a living museum curated, as Dee states “to fight against the erasure of our [D.C. native] stories, neighborhood violence, lack of resources and celebrate the beauty of our [Black] people.”

Anacostia Murals Festival, presented by the CHBC Arts Foundation () transforms D.C.’s east-of-the-river communities into a vibrant outdoor gallery. The bold, large-scale public art experience featuring more than 100 artists creating over 100 murals is an initiative that builds on a strong legacy—supporting local artists, uplifting youth, and strengthening community through art.

These moments aren’t just about preserving and celebrating D.C.’s culture, but more importantly the action of protecting the prosperity of Black people who have been here for generations.

We’re grateful for these D.C. native creatives for carrying the torch as stewards of the culture. Thank you for having us, and also BIG shouts out to all the Anacostia Murals Fest artists. 🎨

The Titos and Titas were also in the building representin’ along with a host of vendors. My mother ingrained in me the importance of community; being of it by showing up, sharing, caring, and contributing to the common good. Bayanihan, a foundational Filipino principle of communal unity and cooperation, is what I witnessed from my mother as I was growing up. This principle has grounded and guided me in my everyday life. I’m incredibly grateful to have her as my mentor in life.

To the Lolas, Nays, Titas, and all the mother figures out there, Happy Mother’s Day. 💐

On April 16th, 2026, I was guided by the spirit of my ancestors to attend a very special D.C. Emancipation Day commemoration hosted by honoring Anise Jenkins—lifelong American activist in the D.C. Statehood movement and executive director of Stand Up! For Democracy in DC (the original Free DC organization).

The ceremony—attended by Jenkins herself—featured a panel of other activists, freedom fighters, educators, historians, and community leaders (Dr. Neenee Taylor, Timothy Wright, Jamila White, Corey Shaw Jr., Michele Tingling-Clemmons, Joyce Robinson-Paul, Mélani N. Douglass, Leilei Gerken), shared about this pivotal history, family stories, lessons learned in the movement and also how the actions we (collectively) take now will usher us towards a more just and equitable future.

The D.C. Statehood Movement, and the Black Liberation movement are intrinsically linked to the legacy of D.C. Emancipation — a holiday in our nation’s capital commemorating the 1862 abolition of slavery in the nation’s capital, 8 months before the national Emancipation Proclamation.

The first major organized celebration occurred on April 19th, 1866, featuring large parades—led by regiments of the United States Colored Troops—speeches, and marches by Black citizens past the White House to celebrate freedom and civic pride. Celebrated annually, since then, it became a public legal holiday of the District in 2005, recognized on April 16th.

While the day is one of celebration, it is also one of awareness, accountability, and call to action for the autonomy of D.C. to self-govern and its citizens to have equitable representation in our democracy.

TAKE ACTION: MAYDAYDC.org
We will be united in this call to action led by in solidarity with D.C. workers, unions, and community members on Friday, May 1st. We ask that you join us in this collective effort of resistance and act of civil non-cooperation against the system, while simultaneously supporting and celebrating the American labor movement and D.C. Statehood Day.

Celebrated 420 for Vintage and Vinyl Market. The event was a part of 3 days of festivities at Wishing Wellness that featured live music, food (including infused popcorn), a curated vinyl listening, and all around good vibes.

This was also D.C. Emancipation Day weekend so we popped-up with the message of D.C. Statehood, carrying on the legacy of the liberation movement in our nation’s capital.

I enjoyed my time popping up, and even more so picking the brain and getting some game from my fellow entrepreneurs. I’m still learning, curious, and open to receiving the knowledge and blessed to be welcomed into spaces by people willing to give it and wanting to see us succeed.

Follow and for upcoming Vintage & Vinyl events.

In doing the knowledge of the D.C. Statehood movement has long motivated me—as a creative—to utilize my talent for activism, promoting messages of awareness, advocacy, and action for the advancement of the movement—in style.

I’m a DC resident. Every April I pay full federal income taxes and payroll taxes. Because DC is not yet a state, I have no say in how any of it gets spent. No voting senator. No voting representative in the House. Congress can override our locally passed laws and veto our budget, and we have no recourse through the ballot box. The founders called this taxation without representation. It’s still happening. Will you stand with me to support DC statehood: H.R. 51 / S. 51.

📌DC residents pay full federal income taxes, payroll taxes, and estate taxes

📌DC is a donor jurisdiction that contributes more to the federal treasury than 19 states

📌DC has no voting senators and no voting representative in the House

📌Congress can override DC’s locally passed laws and veto its budget

🗳️The fix is statehood: H.R. 51 / S. 51, the Washington DC Admission Act

Recap of our time this past weekend for the Blossom Block Fest. The people, the food, the music, the fashion, and the community made for a fun filled day.

It was the largest vendor market they’ve had and I personally wanted to shop more than vend, as there was so much to enjoy! By far though, .popcorn was my favorite with that Egyptian mint tea slushie and kettle corn! 🥤🍿

Shouts out to my friends on the Soufside , , and to everyone over at Sycamore and Oak for welcoming us and the other vendors. There’s something special about Black entrepreneurship and businesses in the community being of the community. It was a great learning experience of what’s possible when we share the wealth by way of resources and pour back into one another.

Thank you to the friends that pulled up and to everyone that shopped with us. We’re grateful and look forward to coming back!
