**FOUR ERAS OF HISTORY IN ONE BUILDING

In Istanbul’s historic Fatih district, a remarkable building reveals architectural layers associated with four different periods: the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the modern Turkish Republic.

Its lowest section is believed to contain the remains of a Roman-era cistern, with Byzantine arches, Ottoman masonry, and more recent construction rising above it.

The structure offers a rare visual timeline of nearly 1,800 years of Istanbul’s architectural history.

The Villa Romana del Casale at Piazza Armerina holds around 3,500 square metres of mosaic, the largest collection of Roman mosaics in situ anywhere. ⏳📜

The villa was buried by a landslide in the twelfth century and preserved under mud. The Great Hunt corridor is 60 metres long. 🦁✨
