RFTW was founded in Washington, DC in October 2015 with the intention of bringing the macabre to the masses, and to make it look damn good. The founder, Chris Yarber, writes:
I grew up in a family that was "of a different color", you could say. My parents were both musicians in the 80s/90s. My brother is a ring master in a circus, with his family performing alongside him. With that said, I spent
a lot of time tagging along on gigs; surrounded by crazy characters, music and so many more sequins than any one person should have to endure. With a family like that, "the norm" just never cut it for me. For as long as I can remember, I've gravitated toward the darker/more theatrical side of movies and pop culture. Beetlejuice was my first favorite film and although I've seen it at least a billion times, it never gets old. Stephen King's IT? Edward Scissorhands? The Addams Family? While other kids were reading "Harriet the Spy" and "The Boxcar Children", I had my nose in "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and R.L. Stine's entire "Goosebumps!" series. Dogs? Cats? Nope. I wanted to play with snakes, lizards and creepy crawlies. I'm still that guy. I started Rest for the Wicked because I wanted to channel these interests into some t-shirts that could easily be incorporated into my wardrobe (and yours!). I wanted these to be fitted and higher quality than the scratchy tee's with thick screen printing I kept stumbling across. As I've been in graphic design for over 15 years now, I figured "why not have a go at drawing up some designs myself?"
I'm having a great time coming up with new ideas and concepts for future products. I hope you guys enjoy what I currently have available and stick around to see what else pops up in the future. xx
