Plant sale in West Chicago, IL.. We will have hot honey, regular local honey, perennials, groundcovers and grasses, hostas, butterfly jewelry, art, handbags, little kids butterfly wings and some random other things for sale such as clothes, kitchen items, tools etc. I even have a few john deer tractors for sale. Compost gets a bad reputation—and honestly, sometimes it earns it. Not everything labeled “compost” is actually helping your soil. Turning waste into something useful is great… but only if what you’re putting back into the earth is truly alive and beneficial.

💪🏽 Oxygen is everything
The good life in your soil—bacteria, fungi, all the tiny unseen helpers—needs air. No oxygen? They die. Then the wrong crew takes over, and instead of rich compost, you get a smelly, sour mess. That’s why turning your pile isn’t optional—it’s essential.

🔥 Why we love the hot (thermophilic) method
When done right, it keeps things aerobic, builds powerful soil biology, and gets hot enough to wipe out pathogens and w**d seeds. It’s not just effective—it’s the safest, most reliable way to create truly regenerative compost.

🌿 What’s happening inside your pile
First, it heats up as microbes feast and clean house. Then it cools and matures—fungi move in, building structure and strength. Finally, the “poop loop” kicks in, where microbes feed on each other and release nutrients plants can actually use. That’s where the magic happens.

Worm castings are made by composting worms, which break down organic matter and produce a rich, nutrient-dense soil amendment. It enriches entire gardens, increases water retention, beneficial soil microbes and inoculates the soil. I have 1, 5 or 10 pound bags of fresh worm casting for sale. $3.00 a pound.
