As we near the end of a year, I wanted to take a moment to share and drop some hints for what's coming in the new year.
I've always felt a deep connection with my indigenous culture. I learned to design and bead with intent, with a clear mind and positive energy. I was raised to respect all living things, take only what's needed, giving thanks and honoring a life when hunting/fishing, and using all that you can. While I wasn't a hunter when I was growing up (I was more the one who'd yell to scare them away), I understood the reasoning, which could additionally be from raising cattle.
As many of you know, I hunted for the first time this year, filling my tag. While my heart broke for the life I took, I honored that animal for what he did for my family. We were able to harvest a good amount of meat, his hide and hooves will be going for regalia, and his antlers being turned to jewelry. But I questioned, is that enough, have I given enough respect to this animal?
Thus, I began research. Culturally there is so much use for bones, but I didn't feel a connection to that. Of course it has significance and purpose, but I want to bring something that honors the animal and life it had, connects us to our heritage and ancestors, and transforms the parts from a symbol of death to that of beauty and artistry. So after much research on techniques, trying different techniques, that process has started and I am so excited to share with you, what Rowdy N' Creative Designs will be bringing to the PNW!
Anyone want to take a guess as to what is up my sleeve (if you already know and have been a part of this journey for me, save the suspense for others 🙂)?
