I just finished my first week of orientation/work. I cannot begin to describe how greatful I am to be in this position. In the two days of actually being on campus I have met so many people, seen so many moving parts behind the scenes, and worked my first big event! I’m so fortunate to be part of a team that has the privilege to share the history and culture of our Nation. 🥹💖

The Chickasaw Nation Silver Feather Award was established in 1999 to honor Chickasaws who have committed their lives to the presentation and preservation of Chickasaw culture, language, and way of life.

The 2024 recipient is JoAnn Ellis who has been instrumental in teaching and preserving our beautiful language. Her dedication to sharing and teaching our language has helped so many learning it and her efforts will continue to help even more learners in the future.

I had the great honor of beading this Ivory Billed Woodpecker medallion that was presented to JoAnn Ellis. I am grateful that I was given this opportunity to serve my Nation and honor my elders in this way. I hope she and her family enjoy this piece for many years to come.
