There's nothing quite like a day on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe! Before you launch, here are a few important tips to help you have a safe, enjoyable day while protecting one of America's most beautiful lakes. 🚤
Boat Inspection Required ✅
All motorized watercraft—including boats, jet skis, eFoils, and motorized paddleboards—must pass an Aquatic Invasive Species inspection before launching on Lake Tahoe.
Inspection locations include:
- Meyers (South Shore)
- Spooner (East Shore)
- Alpine Meadows (North Shore)
Be sure to schedule your inspection ahead of time to avoid delays!
🚤 Popular South Shore Boat Launches
• El Dorado Beach & Lakeview Commons (boats up to 23')
• Cave Rock Boat Ramp
• Tahoe Keys Marina
Each launch has different hours, fees, and boat size requirements, so it's always a good idea to check before heading out.
⚓ Need a Slip or Buoy?
South Shore marinas including Ski Run Boat Company, Camp Richardson, Timber Cove, Round Hill Pines, and Tahoe Keys Marina offer seasonal and short-term docking options.
🍔 Boat-Up Dining Favorites
One of the best parts of boating on Lake Tahoe is pulling up for lunch! Some local favorites include:
- Riva Grill
- Boathouse on the Pier
- The Grove at Camp Richardson
- Beach Bums Grill
- Sunset Grille
🛥️ Don't Own a Boat?
No problem! Several local companies, including Tahoe Sports, offer boat rentals so you can enjoy a day on the lake without owning one.
Safety Reminders
✔️ Always wear (or have) a properly fitting life jacket for everyone onboard.
✔️ Keep an eye on the weather—Lake Tahoe is known for sudden afternoon winds and rough water.
✔️ Designate a sober operator.
✔️ Follow all no-wake zones and boating regulations.
✔️ Pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and layers—weather can change quickly, even in summer.
Whether you're a local or visiting for the weekend, let's all do our part to keep Lake Tahoe safe, clean, and beautiful for generations to come.
