On the afternoon of September 2, 1945, beneath the clear, breezy autumn skies of Hanoi, over half a million people turned their gaze toward a simple wooden podium in the center of the square.
That was the moment the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born, bringing an end to eighty years of colonial rule and millennia of feudal monarchy.
Behind the Declaration of Independence that echoed across rivers and mountains lay fascinating historical milestones and the diplomatic wisdom of our forebears.
Few know that "Ba Dinh Square" was once known as Rond-point Puginier during the French colonial era.
In July 1945, Dr. Tran Van Lai, the Mayor of Hanoi at the time, decided to rename the site "Ba Dinh" in tribute to the valiant Ba Dinh Uprising (1886–1887) led by Dinh Cong Trang.
Furthermore, the historic Declaration was drafted by President Ho Chi Minh in an attic at No. 48 Hang Ngang Street—the home of patriotic merchant Trinh Van Bo, nestled in the heart of Hanoi’s historic 36 Old Streets.

The 1945 Declaration of Independence was not merely a political manifesto; it was a masterpiece of international jurisprudence and diplomacy.
Opening the proclamation, President Ho Chi Minh directly cited the 1776 United States Declaration of Independence: "All men are created equal..."
He followed this with the French Revolution’s 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen: "Men are born and remain free and equal in rights..."
By placing fundamental human rights and national self-determination on the same universal plane as global powers, he built an undeniable premise: Vietnam's independence is an inevitable truth of history and international justice.
And on that afternoon, amidst the solemn recitation, he paused and asked a simple, tender question: "Can you hear me clearly, compatriots?"
Over half a million voices answered in unison with a resounding "Yes!" that moved the earth and sky.
That spontaneous moment broke through all rigid diplomatic protocol, dissolving the distance between leader and people, uniting millions of hearts in a single rhythm of freedom.

Independence brought not only territorial sovereignty, but also fertile ground for cultural heritage and national art to flourish once more.
Joining in the pride of National Independence Day, Folk Form has integrated the "Hương Vân Long Mộng" (Dream of the Dragon in Auspicious Clouds) motif into the sacred emblem of September 2nd (2·9).
Set against pure silk in the vibrant Vermilion Red of the national flag and contemplative Deep Teal, the sacred Ly Dynasty Dragon glides gracefully amidst five-colored clouds (Hương Vân).
The dragon motif of the Ly Dynasty traces its lineage to 1010 CE, when King Ly Thai To relocated the capital to Thang Long (Ascending Dragon)—symbolizing peace, prosperity, gentle majesty, and the overeign spirit of an independent nation.
Through refined double-sided printing on premium mulberry silk, Folk Form proudly upholds its mission to preserve quintessential heritage, presenting the identity of an independent Vietnam to the global cultural stream!
🇻🇳 This autumn, we wish our land of silk and brocade everlasting prosperity, and may the Vietnamese identity forever shine bright and soar with pride across the globe.
🇻🇳 Folk Form warmly wishes all our customers and compatriots a cozy, peaceful, and pride-filled National Day holiday!
