Forgiveness Starts With a Choice
In Luke 17:4, Jesus doesnât wait for our emotions to catch up. He doesnât say, âWhen it feels better.â He simply says, forgive. That tells us forgiveness is an act of obedience before it ever becomes a feeling.
Our emotions may demand space, protection, or paybackâand those reactions are human. But they donât have the final say. Forgiveness is the intentional choice to release someone from the debt we think they owe us, even while the hurt still lingers.
Jesus knows that if we wait to feel forgiving, we may never forgive at all. So He calls us to choose it first. As that choice is repeated, healing begins. Peace may come slowly, but it does come.
Forgiveness doesnât excuse wrongs or erase consequences. It simply refuses to let bitterness take control. When we choose forgiveness, we step into the same mercy God shows us every single day.
