Someone asked me to make a pillow out of their favorite sweater. I was excited at how well it turned out considering the sweater was stretchy. The fun edging had been around the sleeves and bottom of the sweater.

Had the pleasure of sewing this little dress… it’s more than just a dress—it’s a memory dress made out of her great-grandmother’s sundress.

It brings back so many memories… I’ve sewn dozens of these little dresses got my nieces over the years…

For those interested in something like this, it was 2 1/2 hrs with a pattern that was already cut out.

This really strikes a chord… several years ago this is me. I’m so thankful for the freedom from all the baggage of the past.

To those of you that are still carrying this weight, if you are will to release what no longer serves you, the Heavenly Father is so ready to take on the road to FREEDOM!

Another project I did for a friend—a headband for a little girl. I can make a bow to match any outfit.

I’ve come up with my own way of quilting. It takes two people to manage a quilt frame so I carefully put the layers out on my living room floor, first backing finished side down, quilt batting, then the top. I feel and smooth until I have it all the way I want it. Then comes the pinning. I pin and pin so that I can pick it up and move it around. I use a portable quilting hoop n start in the middle of the quilt and work out from the middle in all directions until I have it all finished. This quilt was knotted. I did a little X in the center of the patch because the yarn distracted from the leaf. When the knotting is completed, then the quilt batting gets cut back to the edge of the quilt top and all the layers get pinned securely again. The backing gets trimmed back to only 1 1/4” larger than the top. Then I drag it to my sewing machine where I roll the backing over the raw edge to make the nice finished edge. All done! Mary Ellen Tibbs—I hope you are smiling now that another of the projects you began is now completed.

This is what I’m working on now! The owner of the blocks decided less is more and had me put the blocks together without any sashes or division between the patches. I love it this way! You take tiny, weeny seams and do your best to push the seams out of the way. The professional quilter always turns the seam toward the outside of the patch but I just try to get it to lay as smooth as possible. I plan to knot this one. I’ll post a few demo pictures when I get to it.

This was my first quilt I made from scratch.

It came with its own set of problems. It all started when I heard a lady trying to turn a duvet cover into a quilt for her daughter. I stuffed and tacked batting to make a traditional duvet comforter.

That led into this. A princes quilt for her second daughter. Rather than make it plain I built a diamond into it to make it more interesting.

Long story short, the one who commissioned it got upset when she realized how much time went into it. She said “stop and stop right now.” I wasn’t finished quilting it but I obediently stopped. It took a long time before she had me drop it off in Dexter and pick up money for it.

It reminded me of a saying Grace Blaich said one time, “No good deed goes unpunished. “ I poured a lot of love into that quilt for that little princess.

Now I reach an agreement before I touch a quilt. Everyone seem to love quilts but not many are willing to pay for them. If you were to be paid a traditional wage by the hour most quilts would cost $500-1,000. But I find quilting calming and centering and I love finishing the projects that somebody didn’t get to finish. I love quilting in the evenings. Glad I got involved in quilts.

Here are my next projects: the butterfly patches will get white sashes and dark corners. I’ll put a white border around the whole quilt and finish it with a dark binding.

The pinwheel will get sewn together without sashes n will get bound with dark blue. Thank you to Glenda Hicks and her grandson, Kendrick Nobles for helping me find a pleasing arrangement. (You never know what you might get roped into when you stop by to visit your grandma…)

I got to alter this gorgeous dress for Sarah Holt—now Mrs Nicolini… They told her at the bridal shop that it would be best to go to Memphis(?) for a professional alterations. Sarah ask me if I would consider doing it. She was super patient with me as I researched each step and gave her the perfect fit! I needed to take apart the shoulders and sleeves. I took in the sides n underarm seams to smooth the silhouette n bustled the train. The dress is beaded so I also learned how to remove and add beading. This was about 18 hours of work.

Thank you Sarah, for trusting me to help during this special time of your life! I loved every minute!

N yes, I’d love to alter more formal gowns. YouTube tells me how to do everything! N my years of sewing helps me figure out the rest.
