Pre-loved denim meets silk kimono obi🌹

My inspiration for this revamp denim jacket was petals drifting in the wind 🌬️ the front design is done with hand-cut petal patches.

The back features one large piece of the obi, letting the peonies speak for themselves ✨

An “Omakase” style padded laptop case ordered from my dear friend 💻 🍎

Her request was: a 13inch laptop case with upcycled denim and a little bit of kimono obi, just with what I have and the design is “omakase” ( loved the theme❤️‍🔥)

This freestyle patchwork was so much fun to do!!

Welcome to my studio new friends!🌱

I’ve been noticing many new faces here lately so I wanted to re-introduce myself 🥰

Hi, I’m Mak (Makiko) 👋🏼 the creator behind Kokin! I’m a self taught seamstress and passionate about all things upcycling and slow fashion.
I’ve been running my handmade business since 2020, and that includes everything - sourcing pre-loved kimonos/textiles, pattern making, sewing products, designing website, social media, photography/videography, and doing markets💪🏼

*25th of this month is my 6th anniversary (4th as Kokin)🥳

When I lived in Japan this was my full-time job, but since moving to Brisbane in early 2022 I’ve been juggling other jobs to pay the bills. Life hasn’t been so easy in the past few years, but this is my passion and I’m so proud of each piece that I create. I’m determined to keep going and so happy that you’re here!

This process takes me 2-3 hours on average, and that’s often not including the lining of the kimono 👘🪡 it’s a bit tiring to do it at one sitting so I take breaks or split the task in a couple of days.

All of the kimonos that I upcycle (except 1 fabric that I found as Tanmono: fabric rolls) have been unpicked by me 🙋🏻‍♀️

So yes it is indeed SLOW FASHION ❤️‍🔥

It’s been a busy month, many hours working in the studio including some pattern making which is like a boot camp for my sewing skills 💪🏼🫯

As usual, thank you so much for being here! I really appreciate your support ❤️

The theme is vintage & pre-loved fashion✨ if you’re interested in selling your pre-loved clothes and books, you can join us for just $10 per table/rack! - like a suitcase rummage style 😚🧳📚 (application in their bio)
And of course there will also be coffees, foods and handmade goodies!

Kokin’s Revamp Shirts are made from (mostly men’s) thrifted button-up shirts, featuring:

I’m also bringing some of the newer, more feminine styles with ruffles 🎀 💅🏽
