Floridah's Group's story

This season is not the first one that Floridah is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2018 and, although she is the only person featured in the above picture, she is actually representing her group of 7 farmers in Gem District, Kenya.

Floridah is often described by her community as a very reliable person and decided to be the one to represent her group just because she was proposed by the team. Like many of her fellow farmers, Floridah decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods. She hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to buy a cow.

This loan will not only help Floridah but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 5 acres of land.

Alvaro Alberto's story

Alvaro lives in the municipality of Aguadas. From the time he was young, Alvaro has worked in various activities related to agriculture thanks to his parents. He currently grows food crops.

Alvaro is a hardworking person and always looks for ways to propel himself forward and overcome external obstacles such as the climate, which affects his crops when floods are generated by heavy rains. Alvaro strives every day.

For this reason, Alvaro is requesting a loan that he will use to purchase compost and fertilizers so that he can continue his work.

Agnes' Group's story

This season is not the first one that Agnes is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2014 and, although she is the only person featured in the above picture, she is actually representing her group of 12 farmers in Teso District, Kenya.

Agnes is often described by her community as a very experienced farmer and decided to be the one to represent her group because she wanted to spread the story of One Acre Fund farmers. Like many of her fellow farmers, Agnes decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods and hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to save more money for the future.

This loan will not only help Agnes but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 8.2 acres of land. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of two solar lights.

Fernando's story

Fernando is a humble and hardworking man who is a farmer in his village.

Most of the time he is doing his daily activities by planting and looking after his vegetables. After the vegetables are grown, he usually harvests them and then transports them to local markets to sell. He has been growing and selling vegetables for many years with his own working capital.

Now, he is requesting a loan of $1,500 from KIF to help with his work. Fernando will use this loan to buy more manure, fertilizer, and some new equipment to increase his farming productivity.

Dante has been a rice farmer for many years. He toils the land and grows rice. He resides in the province of Iloilo. He is married with no dependent children.

He owns a rice paddy and sells rice locally. He faces challenges in his business including the lack of capital and the high cost of farm maintenance.

He would like to purchase fertilizer and pesticides. These would help him boost and improve the yield of his farm. It would enable him meet his family's needs and continue to expand his farm to become more sustainable in the future.
